Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
4 The word of Adonai came to me, saying:
5 “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you,
and before you were born, I set you apart—
I appointed you prophet to the nations.”
6 Then I said, “Alas, Adonai Elohim!
Look, I don’t know how to speak!
For I’m still a boy!”
7 But Adonai answered me,
“Do not say ‘I’m only a boy!’
For to everyone I send you, you will go,
and all I command you, you will speak.
8 Do not be afraid of them!
For I am with you to deliver you.”
It is a declaration of Adonai.
9 Then Adonai stretched out His hand and touched my mouth and Adonai said to me,
“Behold, I have put My words in your mouth.
10 See, today I have appointed you over nations and over kingdoms:
to uproot and to tear down,
to destroy and to overthrow,
to build and to plant.”
My Hope When I Am Gray
Psalm 71
1 In You, Adonai, have I taken refuge.
Let me never be ashamed.
2 Deliver me and rescue me in Your justice.
Turn Your ear to me and save me.
3 Be to me a sheltering rock where I may always go.
Give the command to save me—
for You are my rock and my fortress.
4 My God, rescue me out of the hand of the wicked,
out of the grasp of an evil, ruthless man.
5 For You are my hope, Adonai my Lord—
my trust from my youth.
6 From my birth I have leaned on You.
You took me out of my mother’s womb.
My praise is always about You.
Entering the Unshakeable Kingdom
18 For you have not come to a mountain[a] that can be touched, and to a blazing fire, and to darkness and gloom and storm, 19 and to the blast of a shofar[b] and a voice whose words made those who heard it beg that not another word be spoken to them. 20 For they could not bear what was commanded: “If even an animal touches the mountain, it shall be stoned.” [c] 21 So terrifying was the sight that Moses said, “I am quaking with fear.”[d]
22 But you have come to Mount Zion—to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem,[e] and to myriads of angels, a joyous gathering, 23 and to the assembly of the firstborn[f] who are written in a scroll in heaven,[g] and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous ones made perfect, 24 and to Yeshua, the Mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks of something better than the blood of Abel.
25 See to it that you do not refuse the One who is speaking! For if they did not escape when they refused the One who was warning them on earth, much less will we escape if we reject the One who warns us from heaven. 26 His voice shook the earth then,[h] but now He has promised, saying, “Yet once more I will shake not only the earth, but also the heavens.” [i] 27 Now this phrase, “Yet once more,” shows the removal of those things that are shaken—that is, created things—so that what cannot be shaken may remain. [j] 28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude—through this we may offer worship in a manner pleasing to God, with reverence and awe. 29 For our God is a consuming fire.
Teaching by Example at the Synagogue
10 Now Yeshua was teaching in one of the synagogues on Shabbat. 11 And behold, there was a woman with a disabling spirit for eighteen years, bent over and completely unable to stand up straight. 12 When Yeshua saw her, He called out to her and said, “Woman, you are set free from your disability.” 13 Then He laid hands on her, and instantly she stood up straight and began praising God.
14 But the synagogue leader, indignant that Yeshua had healed on Shabbat, started telling the crowd, “There are six days in which work should be done[a]—so come to be healed on those days and not on Yom Shabbat!”
15 But the Lord answered him and said, “Hypocrites! On Shabbat doesn’t each of you untie his ox or donkey from the stall and lead it away to give it drink? 16 So this one, a daughter of Abraham incapacitated by satan for eighteen years, shouldn’t she be set free from this imprisonment on Yom Shabbat?” 17 When Yeshua said these things, all His opponents were put to shame; but the whole crowd was rejoicing at all the glorious things done by Him.[b]
