⁴ Now the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

⁶ Then I said, “Ah, Lord God! Truly, I cannot speak, for I am a youth.”

⁷ But the Lord said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am a youth.’ For you shall go everywhere that I send you, and whatever I command you, you shall speak. ⁸ Do not be afraid of their faces. For I am with you to deliver you,” says the Lord.

⁹ Then the Lord put forth His hand and touched my mouth. And the Lord said to me, “Now, I have put My words in your mouth. ¹⁰ See, I have this day set you over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out and to pull down, to destroy and to throw down, to build and to plant.”

Psalm 71^(A)

¹⁸ You have not come to a mountain that can be touched and that burned with fire, and to blackness and darkness and storm, ¹⁹ and to the sound of a trumpet and to a voice speaking words, such that those who heard them begged that the word not be spoken to them anymore. ²⁰ For they could not endure that which was commanded: “If so much as a beast touches the mountain, it must be stoned or thrust through with a spear.”^{[a] 21} So terrible was the sight that Moses said, “I am terrified and trembling.”^[b]

²² But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels; ²³ to the general assembly and church of the firstborn, who are enrolled in heaven; to God, the Judge of all; and to the spirits of the righteous ones made perfect; ²⁴ and to Jesus, the Mediator of a new covenant; and to the sprinkled blood that speaks better than that of Abel.

²⁵ See that you do not refuse Him who is speaking. For if they did not escape when they refused Him who spoke on earth, much less shall we escape if we turn away from Him who speaks from heaven. ²⁶ At that time His voice shook the earth, but now He has given us a promise, saying, “Yet once more I will shake not only the earth but also heaven.”^{[c] 27} And this statement, “Yet once more,” signifies the removal of those things that can be shaken, things that are created, so that only those things that cannot be shaken will remain.

²⁸ Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be moved, let us be gracious, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. ²⁹ For our God is a consuming fire.

Healing a Woman on the Sabbath

¹⁰ He was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath. ¹¹ And there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity for eighteen years and was bent over and could not straighten herself up. ¹² When Jesus saw her, He called her and said to her, “Woman, you are loosed from your infirmity.” ¹³ Then He laid His hands on her, and immediately she was made straight and glorified God.

¹⁴ But the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, and said to the people, “There are six days in which men ought to work. Therefore come and be healed on those days, but not on the Sabbath day.”

¹⁵ The Lord answered him, “You hypocrite! Does not each one of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or his donkey from the stall and lead it away to water it? ¹⁶ Then should not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham whom Satan has bound these eighteen years, be loosed from this bondage on the Sabbath?”

¹⁷ When He said this, all His adversaries were ashamed. And all the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by Him.
