Version
Psalm 30

David wrote this song. He asks God to bless the Temple.

Thank you, Lord[a]

30 Lord, I will praise you,
because you have saved me from death.
You have not let my enemies laugh at me.
Lord, my God, I called to you for help,
and you have made me well again.
Lord, you pulled me up
out of the deep hole of death.
You saved me
from among those who are going into the grave.
Sing to the Lord,
    you people who trust him.
Praise his holy name.
His anger continues only for a moment,
but he is kind to us for our whole life.
You may be sad all through the night,
but in the morning, you will be happy again.[b]

When I was feeling safe and strong,
I thought, ‘Nothing can ever destroy me.’
But Lord, it was you who made my kingdom strong,
    because you are so kind.
But then you turned away from me,
    and I became very afraid.[c]
I called to you for help, Lord.
I asked you to be kind to me, my Lord.
If I go down into the deep hole of death,
    that will not help you!
My dead body cannot praise you there!
It cannot tell people to trust you!
10 Lord, please listen to me!
    Please be kind to me!
Lord, please be my helper!

11 Now you have caused me to stop crying,
    so that I dance instead!
I do not need to wear sackcloth,
because I am no longer sad.
Instead, you have made me very happy.[d]
12 So I am truly happy and I will sing to praise you.
    I cannot stay quiet!
Lord, my God,
I will continue to thank you for ever.

2 Kings 4:32-37

32 When Elisha arrived at the house, the boy was lying on the bed. He saw that the boy was dead. 33 Elisha went into the room by himself. He shut the door. Elisha prayed to the Lord. 34 Then he got onto the bed and he lay across the boy. He put his mouth on the boy's mouth. He put his eyes over the boy's eyes. He put his hands on the boy's hands. When he lay across the boy's body, it became warm.

35 Elisha went away from the bed. He walked round the room a few times. Then he got onto the bed again. He lay down across the boy. The boy sneezed seven times and then he opened his eyes.[a] 36 Then Elisha called Gehazi to come to him. He said, ‘Tell the boy's mother to come here.’ Gehazi did that. When the woman came, Elisha said to her, ‘Take your son.’ 37 She came in to the room. She bent down low near Elisha's feet with her face towards the ground. Then she took her son and she left the room.

Luke 9:1-6

Jesus sends out the 12 apostles

Jesus asked his 12 apostles to come to him. He gave them power and authority. They could make sick people well. They could also send bad spirits out of people. Then he sent them out to tell people about the kingdom of God. He told them that they should also make sick people well again. He said to them, ‘Do not take anything for your journey. Do not take a stick, or a bag, or food. Do not take any money. Do not take extra clothes.[a] In each town, continue to stay at the first house that you go into. Stay there until you leave that town. In some towns, the people will not accept you. You should leave that place. Clean that town's dirt from your feet. Then it will be clear that they have done something wrong.’

Then the apostles started out. They went to visit all the villages. In every place they told people the good news about Jesus and they made sick people well.
