Psalm 75

Psalm 75

For the Music Director. To the melody of “Do Not Destroy.” A Psalm of Asaph. A Song.

We give thanks to You, O God;
    we give thanks, and Your name is near;
    Your wondrous works declare it.

When I select an appointed time,
    I will judge with equity.
Though the earth and all its inhabitants are swaying,
    I steady its pillars. Selah
I said to the boastful, “Do not boast,”
    and to the wicked, “Do not lift up your horn.
Do not lift up your horn on high,
    or speak with an arrogant neck.”

For neither from the east nor west,
    nor from the wilderness comes victory.
But God is the judge;
    He brings one low, and lifts up another.
For in the hand of the Lord there is a cup,
    and it is full of mixed, foaming wine,
and He pours from it;
    surely all the wicked of the earth will find and drink its dregs.

But I will declare forever,
    I will sing praises to the God of Jacob.
10 All the horns of the wicked I will cut off,
    but the horns of the righteous will be exalted.

2 Kings 3:4-20

Now Mesha king of Moab was a sheep-breeder and gave back to the king of Israel a hundred thousand lambs and the wool of a hundred thousand rams. But when Ahab died, the king of Moab rebelled against the king of Israel. King Jehoram went out of Samaria at that time and mustered all Israel. He went and sent to Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, saying, “The king of Moab has rebelled against me. Will you go with me to Moab to battle?”

He said, “I will go up. I am as you are, my people as your people, and my horses as your horses.”

Then he said, “Which way should we go up?”

And he said, “The way through the Wilderness of Edom.”

So the king of Israel, the king of Judah, and the king of Edom went, and they marched around seven days. But there was no water for the camp or for the livestock that followed them.

10 The king of Israel said, “Alas! The Lord has called these three kings to give them into the hand of Moab!”

11 But Jehoshaphat said, “Is there a prophet of the Lord here, through whom we may inquire of the Lord?”

Then one of the king of Israel’s servants answered, “Elisha the son of Shaphat, who poured water on the hands of Elijah, is here.”

12 Jehoshaphat said, “The word of the Lord is with him.” So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him.

13 Elisha said to the king of Israel, “What have I to do with you? Go to your father’s prophets, or to your mother’s prophets.”

Then the king of Israel said to him, “No. The Lord has called these three kings to deliver them into the hand of Moab.”

14 Elisha said, “As the Lord of Hosts lives, before whom I stand, surely, were it not for my regard for Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would not look at you nor see you. 15 Now bring me a musician.”

And when the musician played, the hand of the Lord came upon him. 16 He said, “Thus says the Lord, ‘Make this valley full of pools.’ 17 For thus says the Lord, ‘You will not see wind, nor will you see rain, yet that valley will be filled with water, that you may drink, both you and your livestock, and your cattle.’ 18 This is an easy thing in the sight of the Lord, and He will give the Moabites into your hand. 19 You will strike every fortified city and every choice city, and will cut down every good tree, and stop every spring of water, and you will ruin every good piece of land with stones.”

20 So in the morning as the offering was offered up, suddenly water flowed from the way of Edom, and the land was filled with water.

Ephesians 5:6-20

Walk as Children of Light

Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not be partakers with them.

For you were formerly darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light— for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth— 10 proving what is pleasing to the Lord. 11 And do not have fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness; instead, expose them. 12 For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. 13 But all things are exposed when they are revealed by the light, for everything that becomes visible is light. 14 Therefore He says:

“Awake, you who sleep,
    arise from the dead,
and Christ will give you light.”

15 See then that you walk carefully, not as fools, but as wise men, 16 making the most of the time because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. 18 Do not be drunk with wine, for that is reckless living. But be filled with the Spirit. 19 Speak to one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord. 20 Give thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,
