19 Now Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and how he had killed all the prophets with the sword.
2 Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, “The gods do so to me and more also if I do not make your life like one of their lives by tomorrow at this time.”
3 When he saw that, he arose and ran for his life, and came to Beersheba (which is in Judah) and left his servant there.
4 But he went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a Juniper tree, and desired that he might die, and said, “It is now enough! O LORD, take my soul. For I am no better than my fathers.”
5 And as he lay, and slept under the Juniper tree, behold, now, an Angel touched him, and said to him, “Up. Eat.”
6 And when he looked around, behold, there was a cake, baked on the coals, and a pot of water, by his head. So he ate and drank and returned and slept.
7 And the Angel of the LORD came again a second time, and touched him, and said, “Up. Eat. For you have a great journey.”
8 Then he arose and ate and drank and walked in the strength of that food for forty days and forty nights, to Horeb, the Mount of God.
9 And he entered into a cave there and lodged there. And behold, the LORD spoke to him, and said to him: “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
10 And he answered, “I have been very jealous for the LORD God of Hosts. For the children of Israel have forsaken Your Covenant, broken down Your Altars, and killed Your Prophets with the sword. And I alone am left. And they seek my life, to take it away.”
11 And He said, “Come out and stand upon the Mount, before the LORD.” And behold, the LORD went by. And a mighty, strong wind tore the mountains and broke the rocks before the LORD. The LORD was not in the wind. And after the wind came an earthquake. The LORD was not in the earthquake.
12 And after the earthquake came fire. The LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a still and soft voice.
13 And when Elijah heard it, he covered his face with his cloak and went out and stood in the entrance of the cave. And behold, a voice came to him, and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
14 And he answered, “I have been very jealous for the LORD God of Hosts, because the children of Israel have forsaken Your Covenant, cast down Your Altars, and killed Your Prophets with the sword. And I alone am left. And they seek my life, to take it away.”
15 And the LORD said to him, “Go. Return by the wilderness to Damascus. And when you come, anoint Hazael king over Aram.
42 As the deer brays for the rivers of water, so panted my soul after You, O God.
2 My soul thirsts for God, even for the living God. When shall I come and appear before the presence of God?
3 My tears have been my food day and night, while they say to me daily, “Where is your God?”
4 When I remembered these things, I poured out my very heart; because I had gone with the multitude and led them into the House of God with the voice of singing and praise, as a multitude that keeps a feast.
5 Why are you cast down, my soul, and unquiet within me? Wait on God; for I will still give Him thanks for the help of His presence.
6 My God, my soul is cast down within me because I remembered You from the land of Jordan, and Hermon, and from the Mount Mizar.
7 One deep calls another deep by the noise of Your waterspouts. All Your waves and Your floods have gone over me.
8 The LORD will grant His lovingkindness in the day; and in the night shall I sing of Him a prayer to the God of my life.
9 I will say to God, my Rock, “Why have You forgotten me? Why do I go mourning when the enemy oppresses?”
10 As a sword shattering my bones, my enemies reproach me, saying daily to me, “Where is your God?”
11 Why are you cast down, my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Wait on God. For I will yet give thanks to Him, to the Face of my Deliverer and my God.
43 Judge me, O God, and defend my cause against the unmerciful people. Deliver me from the deceitful and wicked man.
2 For You are the God of my strength. Why have You put me away? Why do I go so mourning when the enemy oppressed me?
3 Send Your light and Your truth. Let them lead me. Let them bring me to Your Holy Mountain, and to Your Tabernacles.
4 Then I will go to the altar of God, even to the God of my joy and gladness. And upon the harp will I give thanks to You, O God, my God.
5 Why are You cast down, my soul? And why are You disquieted within me? Wait on God; for I will still give Him thanks, my present help and my God. To him who excels: A Psalm to give instruction, committed to the sons of Korah.
23 But before faith came, we were kept under the Law, as under guard, and locked up, until that faith which should be revealed.
24 So that the Law was our tutor, bringing us to Christ, that we might be made righteous by faith.
25 But after that faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.
26 For you are all the sons of God by faith, in Christ Jesus.
27 For all you who were baptized into Christ, have put on Christ.
28 There is neither Jew nor Grecian. There is neither bond nor free. There is neither male nor female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus.
29 And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs by promise.
26 So they sailed to the region of the Gadarenes (which is near Galilee).
27 And as He went out to land, a certain man from the city met Him. He had had demons for a long time, and he wore no clothes. Nor did he live in a house, but in the graves.
28 And when he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell down before Him. And with a loud voice, he said, “What have I to do with You, Jesus the Son of God, the Most High? I beg You, do not torment me!”
29 For He commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. It had often seized him. Therefore, he was bound with chains and kept in shackles. But he broke the bonds and was carried into wilderness by the demon.
30 Then Jesus asked him, saying, “What is your name?” And he said, “Legion!” (because many demons had entered into him).
31 And they begged him not to command them to go out into the deep.
32 And there was a large herd of swine feeding on a nearby hill. And the demons begged Him to let them enter them. So, He allowed them.
33 Then the demons went out of the man and entered into the swine. And the herd was carried violently down a steep bank into the lake and was choked.
34 When the herdsmen saw what was done, they fled. And when they had left, they reported it in the city and in the country.
35 Then they came out to see what had happened. And they came to Jesus and found the man out of whom the demons had come, sitting at the feet of Jesus (clothed, and in his right mind). And they were afraid.
36 Those who saw it also told them by what means he who had been possessed with the demon was healed.
37 Then the whole multitude of the country surrounding the Gadarenes begged Him to leave, for they were taken with great fear. And He went into the ship and returned.
38 Then the man out of whom the demons had come begged Him to let him stay with Him. But Jesus sent him away, saying,
39 “Return to your own house. And show what great things God has done to you.” So, he went his way, and preached throughout all the city what great things Jesus had done to him.
