Psalm 8[a]

Divine Majesty and Human Dignity

For the leader; “upon the gittith.”[b] A psalm of David.

O Lord, our Lord,
    how awesome is your name through all the earth!

I will sing of your majesty above the heavens
    with the mouths of babes(A) and infants.[c]
You have established a bulwark against your foes,
    to silence enemy and avenger.

When I see your heavens, the work of your fingers,
    the moon and stars that you set in place—
[d]What is man that you are mindful of him,(B)
    and a son of man that you care for him?(C)
Yet you have made him little less than a god,[e]
    crowned him with glory and honor.
You have given him rule over the works of your hands,(D)
    put all things at his feet:
All sheep and oxen,
    even the beasts of the field,
The birds of the air, the fish of the sea,
    and whatever swims the paths of the seas.

10 O Lord, our Lord,
    how awesome is your name through all the earth!

Proverbs 3:19-26

19 The Lord by wisdom founded the earth,
    established the heavens by understanding;
20 By his knowledge the depths[a] are split,
    and the clouds drop down dew.

Justice Toward One’s Neighbor Brings Blessing[b]

21 My son, do not let these slip from your sight:
    hold to deliberation and planning;
22 So will they be life to your soul,[c]
    and an adornment for your neck.
23 Then you may go your way securely;
    your foot will never stumble;
24 When you lie down, you will not be afraid,
    when you rest, your sleep will be sweet.
25 Do not be afraid of sudden terror,
    of the ruin of the wicked when it comes;
26 For the Lord will be your confidence,
    and will keep your foot from the snare.

Ephesians 4:1-6

Chapter 4

Unity in the Body. [a]I, then, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to live in a manner worthy of the call you have received,(A) with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another through love,(B) striving to preserve the unity of the spirit through the bond of peace:(C) [b]one body and one Spirit, as you were also called to the one hope of your call;(D) one Lord, one faith, one baptism;(E) one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.(F)
