Psalm 48

It Is Foolish to Trust in Riches

48 The Lord is great and should be given much praise, in the city of our God, His holy mountain. Mount Zion in the far north is beautiful and high, the joy of the whole earth, the city of the great King. God has made Himself known as a safe place in that city.

For, see, the kings gathered themselves and went up together. They saw it, then they were surprised and afraid. And they ran away fast in fear. They began shaking there. And they suffered pain like a woman giving birth. You wreck the ships of Tarshish with the east wind. As we have heard, so we have seen in the city of the Lord of All, in the city of our God. God will make her last forever.

O God, we have thought about Your loving-kindness within Your holy house. 10 Like Your name, O God, Your praise is heard to the ends of the earth. Your right hand is full of what is right and good. 11 Let Mount Zion be glad! Let the people of Judah be full of joy because You are right in how You judge. 12 Walk in Zion, and go around her. See how many towers she has. 13 Give thought to her walls. Go through her beautiful houses where kings live. And tell about it to the children-to-come. 14 This is God, our God forever and ever. He will show us the way until death.

Ezekiel 11:14-25

God Will Bring Israel Back

14 Then the Word of the Lord came to me, saying, 15 “Son of man, your brothers, your family, those who were driven out of the land, and all the people of Israel are those of whom the people of Jerusalem have said, ‘They have gone far away from the Lord. This land has been given to us for our own.’ 16 So tell them, ‘This is what the Lord God says: “I sent them far away among the nations. I divided them among the countries. But still I was a holy place for them a little while in the countries where they had gone.”’ 17 So tell them, ‘This is what the Lord God says: “I will gather you from the nations. I will gather you together out of the countries where you have been divided. And I will give you the land of Israel.”’ 18 When they return to it, they will take away all its hated and sinful things. 19 I will give them one heart, and put a new spirit within them. I will take the heart of stone out of their flesh and give them a heart of flesh. 20 Then they will walk in My Laws and keep them, and obey them. They will be My people, and I will be their God. 21 But as for those whose hearts go after their hated and sinful things, I will bring their actions upon their own heads,” says the Lord God.

22 Then the cherubim lifted up their wings with the wheels beside them. And the shining-greatness of the God of Israel was over them. 23 The shining-greatness of the Lord went up from the city and stood over the mountain east of it. 24 The Spirit lifted me up and brought me in a special dream by the Spirit of God to the Jews who had been taken to Babylon. Then the special dream that I had seen left me. 25 And I told the Jews in Babylon all the things that the Lord had shown me.

1 Corinthians 2:12-16

12 We have not received the spirit of the world. God has given us His Holy Spirit that we may know about the things given to us by Him. 13 We speak about these things also. We do not use words of man’s wisdom. We use words given to us by the Holy Spirit. We use these words to tell what the Holy Spirit wants to say to those who put their trust in Him. 14 But the person who is not a Christian does not understand these words from the Holy Spirit. He thinks they are foolish. He cannot understand them because he does not have the Holy Spirit to help him understand. 15 The full-grown Christian understands all things, and yet he is not understood. 16 For who has the thoughts of the Lord? Who can tell Him what to do? But we have the thoughts of Christ.
