Peter Tells Why He Preached to the People Who Are Not Jews

11 The missionaries and followers who were in the country of Judea heard that the people who were not Jews also had received the Word of God. When Peter went up to Jerusalem, the Jewish followers argued with him. They said, “Why did you visit those people who are not Jews and eat with them?”

Then Peter began to tell all that had happened from the beginning to the end. He said, “While I was praying in the city of Joppa, I saw in a dream something coming down from heaven. It was like a large linen cloth let down by the four corners until it came to me. As I looked at it, I saw four-footed animals and snakes of the earth and birds of the sky. I heard a voice saying to me, ‘Get up, Peter, kill something and eat it.’ But I said, ‘No, Lord! Nothing that is unclean has ever gone into my mouth.’ The voice from heaven said the second time, ‘What God has made clean you must not say is unclean.’ 10 This happened three times and then it was taken up again to heaven.

11 “Three men had already come to the house where I was staying. They had been sent to me from the city of Caesarea. 12 The Holy Spirit told me to go with them and not doubt about going. These six men also went with me to this man’s house. 13 He told us how he had seen an angel in his own home. The angel had stood in front of him and said, ‘Send men to Joppa to ask for Simon Peter. 14 He will tell you and all your family how you can be saved from the punishment of sin.’

15 “As I began to talk to them, the Holy Spirit came down on them just as He did on us at the beginning. 16 Then I remembered the Lord had said, ‘John baptized with water but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’ 17 If God gave to them the same gift He gave to us after we put our trust in the Lord Jesus Christ, how could I stand against God?”

18 When they heard these words, they said nothing more. They thanked God, saying, “Then God has given life also to the people who are not Jews. They have this new life by being sorry for their sins and turning from them.”

Psalm 148

The Whole World Should Praise the Lord

148 Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord from the heavens! Praise Him on high! Praise Him, all His angels! Praise Him, all His army! Praise Him, sun and moon! Praise Him, all you shining stars! Praise Him, you highest heavens, and you waters above the heavens! Let them praise the name of the Lord! For He spoke and they came into being. He has made them last forever and ever. He has set a Law which will not pass away.

Praise the Lord from the earth, you large sea animals and all seas, fire and hail, snow and clouds, and wind storms, obeying His Word. Praise the Lord, you mountains and all hills, fruit trees and all tall trees, 10 wild animals and all cattle, small animals that move on the ground and birds that fly, 11 kings of the earth and all people, princes and all leaders of the earth, 12 both young men and women who have never had men, and old men and children.

13 Let them praise the name of the Lord. For His name alone is honored. His shining-greatness is above earth and heaven. 14 He has raised up a horn for His people, praise for all who belong to Him, for the people of Israel, who are near to Him. Praise the Lord!

Revelation 21:1-6

All Things New

21 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth. The first heaven and the first earth had passed away. There was no more sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem. It was coming down out of heaven from God. It was made ready like a bride is made ready for her husband. I heard a loud voice coming from heaven. It said, “See! God’s home is with men. He will live with them. They will be His people. God Himself will be with them. He will be their God. God will take away all their tears. There will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All the old things have passed away.” Then the One sitting on the throne said, “See! I am making all things new. Write, for these words are true and faithful.” Then He said to me, “These things have happened! I am the First and the Last. I am the beginning and the end. To anyone who is thirsty, I will give the water of life. It is a free gift.

John 13:31-35

Love—the Greatest Law

31 After Judas went out, Jesus said, “The Son of Man is now honored and God has been honored in Him. 32 If God is honored in Him, God will also honor Him in Himself right now. 33 Little children, I will be with you only a little while. You will look for Me. I say to you what I said to the Jews, ‘Where I am going, you cannot come!’ 34 I give you a new Law. You are to love each other. You must love each other as I have loved you. 35 If you love each other, all men will know you are My followers.”
