Version
Isaiah 52:13-53:12

13 ¶ Behold, my slave shall be prospered; he shall be exalted and extolled, and be very high.

14 As many rejected thee, in such manner was his likeness and his beauty, disfigured from the sons of men:

15 But he shall sprinkle many Gentiles; the kings shall shut their mouths over him: for that which had not been told them they shall see; and that which they had not heard they shall understand.

53 ¶ Who shall believe our report? and upon whom shall the arm of the LORD be manifested?

With all this he shall grow up before him as a tender sprout and as a root out of a dry ground. There is no outward appearance in him, nor beauty. We shall see him, yet nothing attractive about him that we should desire him.

He is despised and rejected among men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with weakness; and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

¶ Surely he has borne our sicknesses and suffered our pain: and we considered him stricken, smitten of God, and cast down.

But he was wounded for our rebellions; he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and by his stripes healing was provided for us.

All we like sheep have become lost; we have turned each one to his own way; and the LORD transposed in him the iniquity of us all.

He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he did not open his mouth.

He was taken from prison and from judgment; and who shall count his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living; for the rebellion of my people he was smitten.

And he made his grave with the wicked, and his death with the rich; even though he had never done evil, neither was any deceit in his mouth.

10 ¶ With all this the LORD chose to bruise him; subjecting him to grief. When he shall have offered his soul for atonement, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the will of the LORD shall be prospered in his hand.

11 He shall see of the travail of his soul and shall be satisfied. And by his knowledge shall my righteous slave justify many, for he shall bear their iniquities.

12 Therefore I will divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil unto the strong because he has poured out his soul unto death, and he was numbered with the rebellious, having borne the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

Psalm 22

To the Overcomer upon Aijeleth Shahar, A Psalm of David.

¶ My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me and from the words of my cry?

O my God, I cry in the daytime, but thou hearest not; and in the night season, and am not silent.

But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest in the midst of the praises of Israel.

Our fathers trusted in thee: they trusted, and thou didst deliver them.

They cried unto thee and were delivered: they trusted in thee and were not confounded.

But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men and despised of the people.

All those that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying,

Turn him over to the LORD, let him deliver him, let him save him, seeing he delighted in him.

But thou art he that took me out of the womb; thou hast made me wait upon thee since I was upon my mother’s breasts.

10 I was cast upon thee from the womb; thou art my God from my mother’s belly.

11 ¶ Be not far from me; for trouble is near; for there is no one to help.

12 Many bulls have compassed me: strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round about.

13 They opened their mouth upon me as a ravening and a roaring lion.

14 I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels.

15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaves to my jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death.

16 For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.

17 I may count all my bones: they look and stare upon me.

18 They part my garments among them and cast lots upon my vesture.

19 But be not thou far from me, O LORD: O my strength, haste thee to help me.

20 Deliver my soul from the sword; my life from the power of the dog.

21 Save me from the lion’s mouth and from the horns of the unicorns.

22 ¶ I will declare thy name unto my brethren; in the midst of the congregation I will praise thee.

23 Ye that fear the LORD, praise him; all ye the seed of Jacob, glorify him; and fear him, all ye the seed of Israel.

24 For he has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the poor in spirit; neither has he hid his face from him, but when he cried unto him, he heard.

25 My praise shall be of thee in the great congregation; I will pay my vows before those that fear him.

26 The poor shall eat and be satisfied: those that seek him shall praise the LORD; your heart shall live for ever.

27 All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn unto the LORD; and all the families of the Gentiles shall worship before thee.

28 For the kingdom is the LORD’s, and he shall have dominion over the Gentiles.

29 All those that are fat upon earth shall eat and worship; all those that go down to the dust shall bow before him; and no one can keep his own soul alive.

30 A seed shall serve him; it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation.

31 They shall come and shall declare his righteousness unto a people that shall be born, that he has done this.

Hebrews 10:16-25

16 This is the testament that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will give my laws in their hearts, and in their souls will I write them;

17 and their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.

18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.

19 ¶ Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the sanctuary by the blood of Jesus,

20 by a new and living way, which he has consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;

21 and having that great priest over the house of God,

22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts purified from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water;

23 let us hold fast the profession of our hope without wavering (for he is faithful that promised).

24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto charity and unto good works,

25 not forsaking our gathering together, as the manner of some is, but exhorting one another and so much the more, when ye see that day approaching.

Hebrews 4:14-16

14 Having, therefore, a great high priest who penetrated the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast this profession of our hope.

15 For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

16 Let us, therefore, come boldly unto the throne of his grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Hebrews 5:7-9

Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, was heard because of his reverent fear;

although he was the Son of God, yet he learned obedience by the things which he suffered;

and being made perfect, he became the author of eternal saving health unto all those that hearken unto him,

John 18-19

18 ¶ When Jesus had spoken these things, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron, where there was a garden, into which he entered, and his disciples.

And Judas also, who betrayed him, knew the place: for Jesus gathered there often with his disciples.

Judas then, taking a company of soldiers and ministers of the high priests and of the Pharisees, came there with lanterns and torches and weapons.

Jesus therefore, knowing all the things that should come upon him, went forth, and said unto them, Whom seek ye?

They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus said unto them, I AM. And Judas also, who betrayed him, stood with them.

And when he said unto them, I AM, they went backward and fell to the ground.

Then he asked them again, Whom seek ye? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth.

Jesus answered, I have told you that I AM; if, therefore, ye seek me, let these go away,

that the word might be fulfilled, which he spoke, Of those whom thou gavest me I have lost none.

10 Then Simon Peter, having a sword, drew it and smote the high priest’s slave and cut off his right ear. The slave’s name was Malchus.

11 Then Jesus said unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath; the cup which my Father has given me, shall I not drink it?

12 Then the company of soldiers and the tribune and the ministers of the Jews took Jesus and bound him

13 ¶ and led him away to Annas first, for he was father-in-law to Caiaphas, who was the high priest of that year and he sent him bound unto Caiaphas, the high priest.

14 Now Caiaphas was he who had given the counsel to the Jews that it was expedient that one man should die for the people.

15 And Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple; that disciple was known unto the high priest and went in with Jesus into the palace of the high priest.

16 But Peter stood at the door without. Then that other disciple, who was known unto the high priest, went out and spoke unto her that kept the door and brought in Peter.

17 Then the damsel that kept the door said unto Peter, Art not thou also one of this man’s disciples? He said, I am not.

18 And the slaves and servants stood there, who had made a fire of coals, for it was cold, and they warmed themselves; and Peter stood with them and warmed himself.

19 The high priest then asked Jesus of his disciples and of his doctrine.

20 Jesus answered him, I spoke openly to the world; I always taught in the synagogue and in the temple, where all the Jews gather; and I have said nothing in secret.

21 Why dost thou ask me? Ask those who heard me what I have said unto them; behold, they know what I said.

22 And when he had thus spoken, one of the servants who stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so?

23 Jesus answered him, If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil, but if well, why dost thou smite me?

24 Thus Annas sent him bound unto Caiaphas the high priest.

25 And Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. They said therefore unto him, Art not thou also one of his disciples? He denied it and said, I am not.

26 One of the slaves of the high priest, kinsman of the one whose ear Peter had cut off, said, Did I not see thee in the garden with him?

27 Peter then denied again, and immediately the cock crew.

28 ¶ Then led they Jesus from Caiaphas unto the hall of judgment, and it was early; and they themselves did not go into the judgment hall, lest they should be defiled, but that they might eat the passover.

29 Pilate then went out unto them and said, What accusation bring ye against this man?

30 They answered and said unto him, If he were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered him up unto thee.

31 Then Pilate said unto them, Take him, and judge him according to your law. The Jews therefore said unto him, It is not lawful for us to put anyone to death;

32 that the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spoke, signifying what death he should die.

33 Then Pilate entered into the judgment hall again and called Jesus and said unto him, Art thou the King of the Jews?

34 Jesus answered him, Sayest thou this thing of thyself, or did others tell it unto thee of me?

35 Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thine own nation and the chief priests have delivered thee unto me; what hast thou done?

36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world; if my kingdom were of this world, then my servants would fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews; now, therefore, my kingdom is not from here.

37 Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I AM king. To this end I was born, and for this cause I came into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth hears my voice.

38 Pilate said unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and said unto them, I find no fault at all in him.

39 But ye have a custom, that I should release unto you one at the passover; will ye therefore that I release unto you the King of the Jews?

40 Then they all cried again, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber.

19 ¶ Then Pilate, therefore, took Jesus and scourged him.

And the soldiers platted a crown of thorns and put it on his head, and they put a purple robe on him

and said, Hail, King of the Jews! and they smote him with their hands.

Pilate therefore went forth again and said unto them, Behold, I bring him forth to you, that ye may know that I find no fault in him.

Then Jesus came forth, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. And Pilate said unto them, Behold the man!

When the princes of the priests and the servants saw him, they cried out, saying, crucify him, crucify him. {Gr. stauroo – hang him on a stake} Pilate said unto them, Take him, and crucify him, for I find no fault in him.

The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought to die because he made himself the Son of God.

Therefore when Pilate heard that word, he was the more afraid

and went again into the judgment hall and said unto Jesus, Where art thou from? But Jesus gave him no answer.

10 Then Pilate said unto him, Speakest thou not unto me? knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee {Gr. stauroo – hang thee on a stake} and have power to release thee?

11 Jesus answered, Thou could have no power at all against me, unless it were given thee from above; therefore he that delivered me unto thee has the greater sin.

12 And from then on Pilate sought to release him, but the Jews cried out, saying, If thou let this man go, thou art not Caesar’s friend; whosoever makes himself a king speaks against Caesar.

13 Therefore when Pilate heard that word, he brought Jesus forth and sat down in the judgment seat in a place that is called the Pavement, but in the Hebrew, Gabbatha.

14 And it was the preparation of the passover and about the sixth hour; then he said unto the Jews, Behold your King!

15 But they cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate said unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The high priests answered, We have no king but Caesar.

16 ¶ So that then, he delivered him unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus and led him away.

17 And he, bearing his cross, {Gr. stauros – stake} went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew, Golgotha,

18 where they crucified him and two others with him, one on either side and Jesus in the middle.

19 ¶ And Pilate also wrote a title and put it above the cross. {Gr. stauros – stake} And the writing was, JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS.

20 And many of the Jews read this title, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near to the city; and it was written in Hebrew and Greek and Latin.

21 Then the high priests of the Jews said to Pilate, Write not, The King of the Jews, but that he said, I AM King of the Jews.

22 Pilate answered, What I have written I have written.

23 Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments and made four parts (to each soldier a part); and also his coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout.

24 They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be; that the scripture might be fulfilled, which says, They parted my garments among them, and for my raiment they did cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers did.

25 Now there stood by the cross {Gr. stauros – stake} of Jesus his mother and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene.

26 When Jesus therefore saw his mother and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he said unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!

27 Then he said to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.

28 After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, said, I thirst.

29 Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar, and they filled a sponge with vinegar and put it upon hyssop and put it to his mouth.

30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished, and he bowed his head and gave up the Spirit.

31 ¶ The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross {Gr. stauros – stake} on the sabbath day (for that sabbath day was a high day) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken and that they might be taken away.

32 Then the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first and of the other who were crucified with him.

33 But when they came to Jesus and saw that he was dead already, they did not break his legs,

34 but one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith blood and water came out.

35 And he that saw it gives testimony, and his testimony is true, and he knows that he says the truth, that ye also might believe.

36 For these things were done that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken.

37 And again another scripture says, They shall look on him whom they pierced.

38 ¶ After these things, Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus, and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore and took the body of Jesus.

39 Then Nicodemus came also, who at the first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about one hundred pounds.

40 And they took the body of Jesus and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as is the manner of the Jews to bury.

41 Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new sepulchre, in which no one had yet been laid.

42 Therefore they laid Jesus there because of the Jews’ preparation day, for the sepulchre was near.
