Psalm 99

Yahweh Is a Holy King

99 Yahweh is king; let the peoples tremble.
He sits enthroned[a] between the cherubim. Let the earth shake.
Yahweh is great in Zion,
and he is exalted over all the peoples.
Let them praise your great and fearful name.
He is holy.
And the strength of the king loves justice.[b]
You have established equity;
you have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob.
Exalt Yahweh our God,
and worship at his footstool.
He is holy.
Moses and Aaron were among his priests;
Samuel also was among those who called on his name.
They called to Yahweh, and he answered them.
He spoke to them in the pillar of cloud.
They kept his testimonies and the statute he gave to them.
O Yahweh our God, you answered them.
You were a forgiving God to them,
but an avenger of their wrong deeds.
Exalt Yahweh our God,
and worship at his holy mountain,
for Yahweh our God is holy.

Deuteronomy 9:6-14

“So you should understand that it is not because of your righteousness that Yahweh your God is giving you this good land to take possession of it, because you are a stubborn people. [a] Remember, do not forget,[b] that you provoked Yahweh your God in the desert, and from the day that you went out from the land of Egypt until you came to this place[c] you were rebelling against Yahweh.

“And remember at Horeb you provoked Yahweh, and Yahweh became angry enough to destroy you. When I went up the mountain[d] to receive the stone tablets,[e] the tablets of the covenant that Yahweh made[f] with you, and remained on the mountain forty days[g] and forty nights,[h] I did not eat food and I did not drink water. 10 And Yahweh gave me the two tablets of stone written with the finger of God, and on them was writing according to all the words that Yahweh spoke with you at the mountain, from the midst of the fire on the day of the assembly. 11 And then[i] at the end of forty days[j] and forty nights,[k] Yahweh gave me the two tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant. 12 And Yahweh said to me, ‘Come now, go down quickly from this mountain because your people behave corruptly whom you brought out from Egypt, for they turned quickly from the way that I commanded them to follow; they have made for themselves a cast image.’ 13 And Yahweh spoke to me, saying,[l] ‘I have seen this people, and look! They are a stubborn people.[m] 14 Leave me alone, and let me destroy them, and let me blot out their name from under heaven, and let me make you into a nation mightier and more numerous than they!’

Acts 10:1-8

Cornelius Has a Vision

10 Now there was a certain man in Caesarea named[a] Cornelius, a centurion of what was called the Italian Cohort, devout and fearing God together with all his household, doing many charitable deeds for the people and praying to God continually.[b] About the ninth hour of the day, he saw clearly in a vision an angel of God coming to him and saying to him, “Cornelius.” And he stared at him and became terrified and[c] said, “What is it, Lord?” And he said to him, “Your prayers and your charitable deeds have gone up for a memorial offering before God. And now, send men to Joppa and summon a certain Simon, who is also called Peter. This man is staying as a guest with a certain Simon, a tanner,[d] whose house is by the sea.” And when the angel who spoke to him departed, he summoned two of the household slaves and a devout soldier from those who attended him, and after he[e] had explained everything to them, he sent them to Joppa.
