Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)

1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful;

² but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on His law doth he meditate day and night.

³ And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither, and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

⁴ The ungodly are not so, but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.

⁵ Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

⁶ For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

17 “The sin of Judah is written with a pen of iron and with the point of a diamond. It is engraved upon the tablet of their heart and upon the horns of your altars,

² whilst their children remember their altars and their wooden idols by the green trees upon the high hills.

³ O My mountain in the field, I will give thy substance and all thy treasures to the spoil, and thy high places for sin throughout all thy borders.

⁴ And thou, even thyself, shalt discontinue from thine heritage that I gave thee; and I will cause thee to serve thine enemies in the land which thou knowest not; for ye have kindled a fire in Mine anger which shall burn for ever.”

²⁴ “When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, ‘I will return unto my house whence I came out.’

²⁵ And when he cometh, he findeth it swept and garnished.

²⁶ Then he goeth and taketh to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first.”

²⁷ And it came to pass, as He spoke these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice and said unto Him, “Blessed is the womb that bore Thee and the breasts which Thou hast sucked.”

²⁸ But He said, “Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the Word of God and keep it.”
