Good News Translation (GNT)
Version
Psalm 138

A Prayer of Thanksgiving[a]

138 I thank you, Lord, with all my heart;
    I sing praise to you before the gods.
I face your holy Temple,
    bow down, and praise your name
because of your constant love and faithfulness,
    because you have shown that your name and your commands are supreme.[b]
You answered me when I called to you;
    with your strength you strengthened me.

All the kings in the world will praise you, Lord,
    because they have heard your promises.
They will sing about what you have done
    and about your great glory.
Even though you are so high above,
    you care for the lowly,
    and the proud cannot hide from you.

When I am surrounded by troubles,
    you keep me safe.
You oppose my angry enemies
    and save me by your power.
You will do everything you have promised;
    Lord, your love is eternal.
    Complete the work that you have begun.

Judges 3:7-11

Othniel

The people of Israel forgot the Lord their God; they sinned against him and worshiped the idols of Baal and Asherah. So the Lord became angry with Israel and let King Cushan Rishathaim of Mesopotamia conquer them. They were subject to him for eight years. Then the Israelites cried out to the Lord, and he sent someone to free them. This was Othniel, the son of Caleb's younger brother Kenaz. 10 The spirit of the Lord came upon him, and he became Israel's leader. Othniel went to war, and the Lord gave him the victory over the king of Mesopotamia. 11 There was peace in the land for forty years, and then Othniel died.

Luke 4:42-44

Jesus Preaches in the Synagogues(A)

42 At daybreak Jesus left the town and went off to a lonely place. The people started looking for him, and when they found him, they tried to keep him from leaving. 43 But he said to them, “I must preach the Good News about the Kingdom of God in other towns also, because that is what God sent me to do.”

44 So he preached in the synagogues throughout the country.
