Good News Translation (GNT)
Version
Psalm 36:5-10

The Goodness of God

Lord, your constant love reaches the heavens;
    your faithfulness extends to the skies.
Your righteousness is towering like the mountains;
    your justice is like the depths of the sea.
People and animals are in your care.

How precious, O God, is your constant love!
    We find[a] protection under the shadow of your wings.
We feast on the abundant food you provide;
    you let us drink from the river of your goodness.
You are the source of all life,
    and because of your light we see the light.

10 Continue to love those who know you
    and to do good to those who are righteous.

Jeremiah 3:1-5

Unfaithful Israel

The Lord says, “If a man divorces his wife, and she leaves him and becomes another man's wife, he cannot take her back again. This would completely defile the land. But, Israel, you have had many lovers, and now you want to return to me! Look up at the hilltops. Is there any place where you have not acted like a prostitute? You waited for lovers along the roadside, as an Arab waits for victims in the desert. You have defiled the land with your prostitution. That is why the rains were held back, and the spring showers did not come. You even look like a prostitute; you have no shame.

“And now you say to me, ‘You are my father, and you have loved me ever since I was a child. You won't always be angry; you won't be mad at me forever.’ Israel, that is what you said, but you did all the evil you could.”

Acts 8:18-24

18 Simon saw that the Spirit had been given to the believers when the apostles placed their hands on them. So he offered money to Peter and John, 19 and said, “Give this power to me too, so that anyone I place my hands on will receive the Holy Spirit.”

20 But Peter answered him, “May you and your money go to hell, for thinking that you can buy God's gift with money! 21 You have no part or share in our work, because your heart is not right in God's sight. 22 Repent, then, of this evil plan of yours, and pray to the Lord that he will forgive you for thinking such a thing as this. 23 For I see that you are full of bitter envy and are a prisoner of sin.”

24 Simon said to Peter and John, “Please pray to the Lord for me, so that none of these things you spoke of will happen to me.”
