Psalm 106:1-12

The Lord's Goodness to His People

106 (A)Praise the Lord!
Give thanks to the Lord, because he is good;
    his love is eternal.
Who can tell all the great things he has done?
    Who can praise him enough?
Happy are those who obey his commands,
    who always do what is right.

Remember me, Lord, when you help your people;
    include me when you save them.
Let me see the prosperity of your people
    and share in the happiness of your nation,
    in the glad pride of those who belong to you.

We have sinned as our ancestors did;
    we have been wicked and evil.
(B)Our ancestors in Egypt did not understand God's wonderful acts;
    they forgot the many times he showed them his love,
    and they rebelled against the Almighty[a] at the Red Sea.
But he saved them, as he had promised,
    in order to show his great power.
(C)He gave a command to the Red Sea,
    and it dried up;
    he led his people across on dry land.
10 He saved them from those who hated them;
    he rescued them from their enemies.
11 But the water drowned their enemies;
    not one of them was left.
12 (D)Then his people believed his promises
    and sang praises to him.

Numbers 27:1-11

The Daughters of Zelophehad

27 Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah were the daughters of Zelophehad son of Hepher, son of Gilead, son of Machir, son of Manasseh, son of Joseph. They went and stood before Moses, Eleazar the priest, the leaders, and the whole community at the entrance of the Tent of the Lord's presence and said, “Our father died in the wilderness without leaving any sons. He was not among the followers of Korah, who rebelled against the Lord; he died because of his own sin. Just because he had no sons, why should our father's name disappear from Israel? Give us property among our father's relatives.”

Moses presented their case to the Lord, and the Lord said to him, (A)“What the daughters of Zelophehad request is right; give them property among their father's relatives. Let his inheritance pass on to them. Tell the people of Israel that whenever a man dies without leaving a son, his daughter is to inherit his property. If he has no daughter, his brothers are to inherit it. 10 If he has no brothers, his father's brothers are to inherit it. 11 If he has no brothers or uncles, then his nearest relative is to inherit it and hold it as his own property. The people of Israel are to observe this as a legal requirement, just as I, the Lord, have commanded you.”

Luke 11:33-36

The Light of the Body(A)

33 (B)“No one lights a lamp and then hides it or puts it under a bowl;[a] instead, it is put on the lampstand, so that people may see the light as they come in. 34 Your eyes are like a lamp for the body. When your eyes are sound, your whole body is full of light; but when your eyes are no good, your whole body will be in darkness. 35 Make certain, then, that the light in you is not darkness. 36 If your whole body is full of light, with no part of it in darkness, it will be bright all over, as when a lamp shines on you with its brightness.”
