Psalm 132:1-12

Psalm 132

David and Zion Chosen

A song of ascents.

Lord, remember David
and all the hardships he endured,(A)
and how he swore an oath to the Lord,
making a vow to the Mighty One of Jacob:(B)
“I will not enter my house
or get into my bed,
I will not allow my eyes to sleep
or my eyelids to slumber(C)
until I find a place for the Lord,
a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.”(D)

We heard of the ark in Ephrathah;[a](E)
we found it in the fields of Jaar.[b](F)
Let’s go to his dwelling place;
let’s worship at his footstool.(G)
Rise up, Lord, come to your resting place,
you and your powerful ark.(H)
May your priests be clothed with righteousness,
and may your faithful people shout for joy.(I)
10 For the sake of your servant David,
do not reject your anointed one.[c](J)

11 The Lord swore an oath to David,
a promise he will not abandon:
“I will set one of your offspring[d]
on your throne.(K)
12 If your sons keep my covenant
and my decrees that I will teach them,
their sons will also sit on your throne forever.”(L)

Psalm 132:13-18

13 For the Lord has chosen Zion;
he has desired it for his home:(A)
14 “This is my resting place forever;
I will make my home here
because I have desired it.(B)
15 I will abundantly bless its food;
I will satisfy its needy with bread.(C)
16 I will clothe its priests with salvation,
and its faithful people will shout for joy.(D)
17 There I will make a horn grow for David;(E)
I have prepared a lamp[a] for my anointed one.(F)
18 I will clothe his enemies with shame,(G)
but the crown he wears[b] will be glorious.”(H)

2 Kings 22:11-20

11 When the king heard the words of the book of the law, he tore his clothes.(A) 12 Then he commanded the priest Hilkiah, Ahikam(B) son of Shaphan, Achbor(C) son of Micaiah, the court secretary Shaphan, and the king’s servant Asaiah, 13 “Go and inquire of the Lord for me, for the people, and for all Judah about the words in this book that has been found. For great is the Lord’s wrath that is kindled against us because our ancestors have not obeyed the words of this book in order to do everything written about us.”(D)

Huldah’s Prophecy of Judgment

14 So(E) the priest Hilkiah, Ahikam, Achbor, Shaphan, and Asaiah went to the prophetess(F) Huldah, wife of Shallum son of Tikvah,(G) son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe. She lived in Jerusalem in the Second District.(H) They spoke with her.

15 She said to them, “This is what the Lord God of Israel says: Say to the man who sent you to me, 16 ‘This is what the Lord says: I am about to bring disaster on this place and on its inhabitants, fulfilling[a] all the words of the book that the king of Judah has read,(I) 17 because they have abandoned me and burned incense to other gods in order to anger me with all the work of their hands. My wrath will be kindled against this place, and it will not be quenched.’(J) 18 Say this to the king of Judah who sent you to inquire of the Lord: ‘This is what the Lord God of Israel says: As for the words that you heard,(K) 19 because your heart was tender and you humbled yourself before the Lord(L) when you heard what I spoke against this place and against its inhabitants, that they would become a desolation and a curse,(M) and because you have torn your clothes and wept before me, I myself have heard’—this is the Lord’s declaration. 20 ‘Therefore, I will indeed gather you to your ancestors, and you will be gathered to your grave in peace.(N) Your eyes will not see all the disaster that I am bringing on this place.’”

Then they reported[b] to the king.

1 Corinthians 15:20-28

Christ’s Resurrection Guarantees Ours

20 But as it is, Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits(A) of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For since death(B) came through a man,(C) the resurrection of the dead also comes through a man.(D) 22 For just as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive.(E)

23 But each in his own order:(F) Christ, the firstfruits; afterward, at his coming, those who belong to Christ. 24 Then comes the end,(G) when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father,(H) when he abolishes all rule and all authority and power.(I) 25 For he must reign(J) until he puts all his enemies under his feet.(K) 26 The last enemy to be abolished is death.(L) 27 For God has put everything under his feet.[a](M) Now when it says “everything” is put under him, it is obvious that he who puts everything under him is the exception. 28 When everything is subject to Christ, then the Son(N) himself will also be subject to the one who subjected everything to him, so that God may be all in all.(O)
