Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
The Lord Exalts the Humble.
113 [a]Praise [b]the Lord!
(A)Praise, O (B)servants of the Lord,
Praise the name of the Lord.
2 (C)Blessed be the name of the Lord
From this time forth and forever.
3 (D)From the rising of the sun to its setting
The (E)name of the Lord is to be praised.
4 The Lord is (F)high above all nations;
His (G)glory is above the heavens.
5 (H)Who is like the Lord our God,
Who (I)is enthroned on high,
6 Who [c](J)humbles Himself to behold
The things that are in heaven and in the earth?
7 He (K)raises the poor from the dust
And lifts the needy from the ash heap,
8 To make them (L)sit with [d]princes,
With the [e]princes of His people.
9 He (M)makes the barren woman abide in the house
As a joyful mother of children.
[f]Praise [g]the Lord!
28 Then (A)the girl ran and told her mother’s household about these things. 29 Now Rebekah had a brother whose name was (B)Laban; and Laban ran outside to the man at the spring. 30 When he saw the ring and the bracelets on his sister’s [a]wrists, and when he heard the words of Rebekah his sister, saying, “[b]This is what the man said to me,” he went to the man; and behold, he was standing by the camels at the spring. 31 And he said, “(C)Come in, (D)blessed of the Lord! Why do you stand outside since (E)I have prepared the house, and a place for the camels?” 32 So the man entered the house. Then [c](F)Laban unloaded the camels, and he gave straw and feed to the camels, and water to wash his feet and the feet of the men who were with him. 33 But when food was set before him to eat, he said, “I will not eat until I have told my business.” And he said, “Speak on.” 34 So he said, “I am (G)Abraham’s servant. 35 The Lord has greatly (H)blessed my master, so that he has become [d]rich; and He has given him (I)flocks and herds, and silver and gold, and servants and maids, and camels and donkeys. 36 Now (J)Sarah my master’s wife bore a son to my master [e]in her old age, and (K)he has given him all that he has. 37 (L)My master made me swear, saying, ‘You shall not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I [f]live; 38 but you shall go to my father’s house and to my relatives, and take a wife for my son.’ 39 (M)I said to my master, ‘Suppose the woman does not follow me.’ 40 He said to me, ‘(N)The Lord, before whom I have (O)walked, will send (P)His angel with you to make your journey successful, and you will take a wife for my son from my relatives and from my father’s house; 41 (Q)then you will be free from my oath, when you come to my relatives; and if they do not give her to you, you will be free from my oath.’
42 “So (R)I came today to the spring, and said, ‘O Lord, the God of my master Abraham, if now You will make my journey on which I go (S)successful;
16 And He came to (A)Nazareth, where He had been brought up; and as was His custom, (B)He entered the synagogue on the Sabbath, and (C)stood up to read. 17 And the [a]book of the prophet Isaiah was handed to Him. And He opened the [b]book and found the place where it was written,
18 “(D)The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,
Because He anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor.
He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives,
And recovery of sight to the blind,
To set free those who are oppressed,
19 (E)To proclaim the favorable year of the Lord.”
20 And He (F)closed the [c]book, gave it back to the attendant and (G)sat down; and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on Him. 21 And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your [d]hearing.” 22 And all were [e]speaking well of Him, and wondering at the [f]gracious words which [g]were falling from His lips; and they were saying, “(H)Is this not Joseph’s son?” 23 And He said to them, “No doubt you will quote this proverb to Me, ‘Physician, heal yourself! Whatever we heard was done (I)at Capernaum, do here in (J)your hometown as well.’” 24 And He said, “Truly I say to you, (K)no prophet is welcome in his hometown. 25 But I say to you in truth, there were many widows in Israel (L)in the days of Elijah, when the sky was shut up for three years and six months, when a great famine came over all the land; 26 and yet Elijah was sent to none of them, but (M)only to [h]Zarephath, in the land of (N)Sidon, to a woman who was a widow. 27 And there were many lepers in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet; and none of them was cleansed, but (O)only Naaman the Syrian.” 28 And all the people in the synagogue were filled with rage as they heard these things; 29 and they got up and (P)drove Him out of the city, and led Him to the brow of the hill on which their city had been built, in order to throw Him down the cliff. 30 But (Q)passing through their midst, He went His way.
