Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
20 The Lord dealt with me (A)according to my righteousness;
according to (B)the cleanness of my hands he rewarded me.
21 For I have (C)kept the ways of the Lord,
and have not wickedly departed from my God.
22 For (D)all his rules[a] were before me,
and his statutes I did not put away from me.
23 I was (E)blameless before him,
and I kept myself from my guilt.
24 So the Lord has rewarded me according to my righteousness,
according to the cleanness of my hands in his sight.
25 With (F)the merciful you show yourself merciful;
with the blameless man you show yourself blameless;
26 with the purified you show yourself pure;
and with (G)the crooked you make yourself seem tortuous.
27 For you save (H)a humble people,
but (I)the haughty eyes you bring down.
28 For it is you who light my (J)lamp;
the Lord my God lightens my darkness.
29 For by you I can run against a troop,
and by my God I can (K)leap over (L)a wall.
30 This God—his way is (M)perfect;[b]
the word of the Lord (N)proves true;
he is (O)a shield for all those who (P)take refuge in him.
8 At midnight the man was startled and turned over, and behold, a woman lay at his feet! 9 He said, “Who are you?” And she answered, “I am Ruth, your servant. (A)Spread your wings[a] over your servant, for you are (B)a redeemer.” 10 And he said, (C)“May you be blessed by the Lord, my daughter. You have made this last kindness greater than (D)the first in that you have not gone after young men, whether poor or rich. 11 And now, my daughter, do not fear. I will do for you all that you ask, for all my fellow townsmen know that you are (E)a worthy woman. 12 And now it is true that I am (F)a redeemer. Yet there is a redeemer nearer than I. 13 Remain tonight, and in the morning, if he will (G)redeem you, good; let him do it. But if he is not willing to redeem you, then, (H)as the Lord lives, I will redeem you. Lie down until the morning.”
14 So she lay at his feet until the morning, but arose before one could recognize another. And he said, “Let it not be known that the woman came to the threshing floor.” 15 And he said, “Bring the garment you are wearing and hold it out.” So she held it, and he measured out six measures of barley and put it on her. Then she went into the city. 16 And when she came to her mother-in-law, she said, “How did you fare, my daughter?” Then she told her all that the man had done for her, 17 saying, “These six measures of barley he gave to me, for he said to me, ‘You must not go back empty-handed to your mother-in-law.’” 18 She replied, “Wait, my daughter, until you learn how the matter turns out, for the man will not rest but will settle the matter today.”
A New Commandment
31 When he had gone out, Jesus said, (A)“Now is the Son of Man glorified, and (B)God is glorified in him. 32 If God is glorified in him, (C)God will also glorify him in himself, and (D)glorify him at once. 33 Little children, (E)yet a little while I am with you. You will seek me, and just (F)as I said to the Jews, so now I also say to you, ‘Where I am going you cannot come.’ 34 (G)A new commandment (H)I give to you, (I)that you love one another: (J)just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. 35 (K)By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
