Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
Put Not Your Trust in Princes
146 (A)Praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord, O my soul!
2 I will praise the Lord (B)as long as I live;
(C)I will sing praises to my God while I have my being.
3 (D)Put not your trust in princes,
(E)in a son of man, in whom there is (F)no salvation.
4 When (G)his breath departs, he returns to the earth;
on that very day his plans perish.
5 (H)Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob,
whose (I)hope is in the Lord his God,
6 (J)who made heaven and earth,
the sea, and all that is in them,
(K)who keeps faith forever;
7 (L)who executes justice for the oppressed,
(M)who gives food to the hungry.
10 Then (A)she fell on her face, bowing to the ground, and said to him, “Why have I found favor in your eyes, that you should (B)take notice of me, since I am a foreigner?” 11 But Boaz answered her, (C)“All that you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband has been fully told to me, and how you left your father and mother and your native land and came to a people that you did not know before. 12 (D)The Lord repay you for what you have done, and a full reward be given you by the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge!” 13 Then she said, (E)“I have found favor in your eyes, my lord, for you have comforted me and spoken kindly to your servant, though I am not one of your servants.”
14 And at mealtime Boaz said to her, “Come here and eat some bread and dip your morsel in the wine.” So she sat beside the reapers, and he passed to her roasted grain. And she ate until (F)she was satisfied, and she had some left over.
The Parable of the Good Samaritan
25 (A)And behold, a (B)lawyer stood up to (C)put him to the test, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to (D)inherit eternal life?” 26 He said to him, “What is written in the Law? How do you read it?” 27 And he answered, (E)“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and (F)your neighbor as yourself.” 28 And he said to him, “You have answered correctly; (G)do this, and you will live.”
29 But he, (H)desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?” 30 Jesus replied, “A man (I)was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead. 31 Now by chance a (J)priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side. 32 So likewise (K)a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a (L)Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion. 34 He went to him and (M)bound up his wounds, pouring on (N)oil and wine. Then he set him on his own animal and brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 And the next day he took out two (O)denarii[a] and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, ‘Take care of him, and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.’ 36 Which of these three, do you think, proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?” 37 He said, “The one who showed him mercy.” And Jesus said to him, “You go, and do likewise.”
