GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)
Version
Psalm 75

For the choir director; al tashcheth; a psalm by Asaph; a song.

75 We give thanks to you, O God; we give thanks.
You are present, and your miracles confirm that.

When I choose the right time,
I will judge fairly.
When the earth and everyone who lives on it begin to melt,
I will make its foundations as solid as rock. Selah
I said to those who brag, “Don’t brag,”
and to wicked people,
“Don’t raise your weapons.
Don’t raise your weapons so proudly
or speak so defiantly.”

The ⌞authority⌟ to reward someone does not ⌞come⌟
from the east,
from the west,
or ⌞even⌟ from the wilderness.
God alone is the judge.
He punishes one person and rewards another.
A cup is in the Lord’s hand.
(Its foaming wine is thoroughly mixed with spices.)
He will empty it,
⌞and⌟ all the wicked people on earth
will have to drink every last drop.

But I will speak ⌞about your miracles⌟ forever.
I will make music to praise the God of Jacob.
10 I will destroy all the weapons of wicked people,
but the weapons of righteous people will be raised proudly.

Job 40

The Lord Speaks

40 The Lord responded to Job,

“Will the person who finds fault with the Almighty correct him?
Will the person who argues with God answer him?”

Job Speaks

Job answered the Lord,

“I’m so insignificant. How can I answer you?
I will put my hand over my mouth.
I spoke once, but I can’t answer—
twice, but not again.”

The Lord Speaks: Can You Be Like Me, Job?

Then the Lord responded to Job out of a storm,

“Brace yourself like a man!
I will ask you, and you will teach me.

“Would you undo my justice?
Would you condemn me so that you can be righteous?
Do you have power like God’s?
Can you thunder with a voice like his?
10 Then dress yourself in majesty and dignity.
Clothe yourself in splendor and glory.
11 Unleash your outbursts of anger.
Look at all who are arrogant, and put them down.
12 Look at all who are arrogant, and humble them.
Crush wicked people wherever they are.
13 Hide them completely in the dust,
and cover their faces in the hidden place.
14 Then even I will praise you
because your right hand can save you.

Can You Conquer Behemoth, Job?

15 “Look at Behemoth,[a] which I made along with you.
It eats grass as cattle do.
16 Look at the strength in its back muscles,
the power in its stomach muscles.
17 It makes its tail stiff like a cedar.
The ligaments of its thighs are intertwined.
18 Its bones are bronze tubes.
They are like iron bars.
19 Behemoth is the first of God’s conquests.
Its maker approaches it with his sword.
20 The hills bring it food,
and all the wild animals play there.
21 It lies down under the lotus plants
in a hiding place among reeds and swamps.
22 Lotus plants provide it with cover.
Poplars by the stream surround it.
23 Though the river flows powerfully against it, it’s not alarmed.
It’s confident ⌞even⌟ when the Jordan rushes against its mouth.
24 Can anyone blind its eyes [b]
or pierce its nose with snares?

Hebrews 6:1-12

With this in mind, we should stop going over the elementary truths about Christ and move on to topics for more mature people. We shouldn’t repeat the basics about turning away from the useless things we did and the basics about faith in God. We shouldn’t repeat the basic teachings about such things as baptisms, setting people apart for holy tasks, dead people coming back to life, and eternal judgment. If God permits, we will do this.

Some people once had God’s light. They experienced the heavenly gift and shared in the Holy Spirit. They experienced the goodness of God’s word and the powers of the world to come. Yet, they have deserted ⌞Christ⌟. They are crucifying the Son of God again and publicly disgracing him. Therefore, they cannot be led a second time to God.

God blesses the earth. So rain often falls on it, and it produces useful crops for farmers. However, if the earth produces thorns and thistles, it is worthless and in danger of being cursed. In the end it will be burned.

God Will Not Forget You

Dear friends, even though we say these things, we are still convinced that better things are in store for you and that they will save you. 10 God is fair. He won’t forget what you’ve done or the love you’ve shown for him. You helped his holy people, and you continue to help them. 11 We want each of you to prove that you’re working hard so that you will remain confident until the end. 12 Then, instead of being lazy, you will imitate those who are receiving the promises through faith and patience.
