Psalm 84

Longing for the Temple Worship.

For the choir director; [a]on the Gittith. A Psalm of the sons of Korah.

84 How lovely are Your (A)dwelling places,
O Lord of hosts!
My (B)soul longed and even yearned for the courts of the Lord;
My heart and my flesh sing for joy to the (C)living God.
The bird also has found a house,
And the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young,
Even Your (D)altars, O Lord of hosts,
(E)My King and my God.
How (F)blessed are those who dwell in Your house!
They are (G)ever praising You. [b]Selah.

How blessed is the man whose (H)strength is in You,
In [c]whose heart are the (I)highways to Zion!
Passing through the valley of [d]Baca they make it a [e]spring;
The (J)early rain also covers it with blessings.
They (K)go from strength to strength,
[f]Every one of them (L)appears before God in Zion.

O (M)Lord God of hosts, hear my prayer;
Give ear, O (N)God of Jacob! Selah.
Behold our (O)shield, O God,
And look upon the face of (P)Your anointed.
10 For (Q)a day in Your courts is better than a thousand outside.
I would rather stand at the threshold of the house of my God
Than dwell in the tents of wickedness.
11 For the Lord God is (R)a sun and (S)shield;
The Lord gives grace and (T)glory;
(U)No good thing does He withhold [g]from those who walk [h]uprightly.
12 O Lord of hosts,
How (V)blessed is the man who trusts in You!

1 Kings 4:20-28

Solomon’s Power, Wealth and Wisdom

20 (A)Judah and Israel were as numerous as the sand that is on the [a]seashore in abundance; they were eating and drinking and rejoicing.

21 [b](B)Now Solomon ruled over all the kingdoms (C)from the [c]River to the land of the Philistines and to the border of Egypt; (D)they brought tribute and served Solomon all the days of his life.

22 Solomon’s [d]provision for one day was thirty [e]kors of fine flour and sixty [f]kors of meal, 23 ten fat oxen, twenty [g]pasture-fed oxen, a hundred sheep besides deer, gazelles, roebucks, and fattened fowl. 24 For he had dominion over everything [h]west of the [i]River, from Tiphsah even to (E)Gaza, (F)over all the kings [j]west of the [k]River; and (G)he had peace on all sides around about him. 25 (H)So Judah and Israel lived in safety, every man under his vine and his fig tree, (I)from Dan even to Beersheba, all the days of Solomon. 26 (J)Solomon had [l]40,000 stalls of horses for his chariots, and 12,000 horsemen. 27 Those deputies [m]provided for King Solomon and all who came to King Solomon’s table, each in his month; they left nothing lacking. 28 They also brought barley and straw for the horses and (K)swift steeds to the place where it should be, each according to his charge.

1 Thessalonians 5:1-11

The Day of the Lord

Now as to the (A)times and the epochs, brethren, you (B)have no need of anything to be written to you. For you yourselves know full well that (C)the day of the Lord [a]will come (D)just like a thief in the night. While they are saying, “(E)Peace and safety!” then [b](F)destruction [c]will come upon them suddenly like (G)labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape. But you, brethren, are not in (H)darkness, that the day would overtake you [d](I)like a thief; for you are all (J)sons of light and sons of day. We are not of night nor of (K)darkness; so then let us not (L)sleep as [e](M)others do, but let us be alert and [f](N)sober. For those who sleep do their sleeping at night, and those who get drunk get (O)drunk at night. But since (P)we are of the day, let us (Q)be [g]sober, having put on the (R)breastplate of (S)faith and love, and as a (T)helmet, the (U)hope of salvation. For God has not destined us for (V)wrath, but for (W)obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 (X)who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep, we will live together with Him. 11 Therefore [h]encourage one another and (Y)build up one another, just as you also are doing.
