The Lord’s Covenant with David

When the king had settled into his palace(A) and the Lord had given him rest on every side from all his enemies, the king said to Nathan the prophet, “Look, I am living in a cedar house while the ark of God sits inside tent curtains.”(B)

So Nathan told the king, “Go and do all that is on your heart, for the Lord is with you.”

But that night the word of the Lord came to Nathan: “Go to My servant David and say, ‘This is what the Lord says: Are you to build a house for Me to live in?(C) From the time I brought the Israelites out of Egypt until today I have not lived in a house; instead, I have been moving around with a tent as My dwelling.(D) In all My journeys with all the Israelites, have I ever asked anyone among the tribes of Israel, whom I commanded to shepherd My people Israel: Why haven’t you built Me a house of cedar?’

“Now this is what you are to say to My servant David: ‘This is what the Lord of Hosts says: I took you from the pasture and from following the sheep to be ruler over My people Israel.(E) I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have destroyed all your enemies before you. I will make a name for you like that of the greatest in the land.(F) 10 I will establish a place for My people Israel and plant them,(G) so that they may live there and not be disturbed again. Evildoers will not afflict them as they have done 11 ever since the day I ordered judges to be over My people Israel.(H) I will give you rest from all your enemies.

“‘The Lord declares to you: The Lord Himself will make a house for you. 12 When your time comes and you rest with your fathers, I will raise up after you your descendant, who will come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom.(I) 13 He will build a house for My name,(J) and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.(K) 14 I will be a father to him, and he will be a son to Me.(L) When he does wrong, I will discipline him with a human rod and with blows from others.

Psalm 89:20-37

20 I have found David My servant;
I have anointed him with My sacred oil.(A)
21 My hand will always be with him,
and My arm will strengthen him.(B)
22 The enemy will not afflict[a] him;
no wicked man will oppress him.(C)
23 I will crush his foes before him
and strike those who hate him.(D)
24 My faithfulness and love will be with him,
and through My name
his horn will be exalted.(E)
25 I will extend his power to the sea
and his right hand to the rivers.(F)
26 He will call to Me, ‘You are my Father,(G)
my God, the rock of my salvation.’(H)
27 I will also make him My firstborn,
greatest of the kings of the earth.(I)
28 I will always preserve My faithful love for him,
and My covenant with him will endure.(J)
29 I will establish his line forever,
his throne as long as heaven lasts.[b](K)
30 If his sons forsake My instruction
and do not live by My ordinances,(L)
31 if they dishonor My statutes
and do not keep My commands,(M)
32 then I will call their rebellion
to account with the rod,
their sin with blows.(N)
33 But I will not withdraw
My faithful love from him
or betray My faithfulness.(O)
34 I will not violate My covenant
or change what My lips have said.(P)
35 Once and for all
I have sworn an oath by My holiness;
I will not lie to David.(Q)
36 His offspring will continue forever,
his throne like the sun before Me,(R)
37 like the moon, established forever,
a faithful witness in the sky.”(S)Selah

Ephesians 2:11-22

Unity in Christ

11 So then, remember that at one time you were Gentiles in the flesh—called “the uncircumcised” by those called “the circumcised,”(A) which is done in the flesh by human hands.(B) 12 At that time you were without the Messiah, excluded from the citizenship of Israel, and foreigners to the covenants of the promise,(C) without hope(D) and without God in the world. 13 But now in Christ Jesus, you who were far away have been brought near by the blood(E) of the Messiah. 14 For He is our peace, who made both groups one(F) and tore down the dividing wall of hostility. In His flesh, 15 He made of no effect the law consisting of commands and expressed in regulations, so that He might create(G) in Himself one(H) new man from the two, resulting in peace. 16 He did this so that He might reconcile both to God in one body(I) through the cross and put the hostility to death by it.[a] 17 When the Messiah came, He proclaimed the good news(J) of peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near.(K) 18 For through Him we both have access(L) by one Spirit to the Father.(M) 19 So then you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with the saints, and members of God’s household, 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets,(N) with Christ Jesus Himself as the cornerstone. 21 The whole building, being put together(O) by Him, grows into a holy sanctuary in the Lord.(P) 22 You also are being built together(Q) for God’s dwelling(R) in the Spirit.

Mark 6:30-34

Feeding 5,000

30 The(A) apostles(B) gathered around Jesus and reported to Him all that they had done and taught. 31 He said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a remote place and rest for a while.” For many people were coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat. 32 So they went away in the boat by themselves to a remote place, 33 but many saw them leaving and recognized them. People ran there by land from all the towns and arrived ahead of them.[a] 34 So as He stepped ashore, He saw a huge crowd and had compassion(C) on them, because they were like sheep(D) without a shepherd. Then He began to teach them many things.

Mark 6:53-56

Miraculous Healings

53 When they had crossed over, they came to land at Gennesaret(A) and beached the boat. 54 As they got out of the boat, people immediately recognized Him. 55 They hurried throughout that vicinity and began to carry the sick(B) on mats to wherever they heard He was. 56 Wherever He would go, into villages, towns, or the country, they laid the sick in the marketplaces and begged Him that they might touch just the tassel(C) of His robe.(D) And everyone who touched it was made well.
