Psalm 68:24-35

24 People have seen your procession, God,
the procession of my God,
my King, in the sanctuary.(A)
25 Singers lead the way,
with musicians following;
among them are young women
playing tambourines.(B)
26 Bless God in the assemblies;
bless the Lord from the fountain of Israel.(C)
27 There is Benjamin, the youngest, leading them,
the rulers of Judah in their assembly,[a]
the rulers of Zebulun, the rulers of Naphtali.(D)

28 Your God has decreed your strength.
Show your strength, God,
you who have acted on our behalf.(E)
29 Because of your temple at Jerusalem,
kings will bring tribute to you.(F)
30 Rebuke the beast in the reeds,
the herd of bulls with the calves of the peoples.(G)
Trample underfoot those with bars of silver.[b]
Scatter the peoples who take pleasure in war.(H)
31 Ambassadors will come[c] from Egypt;
Cush will stretch out its hands to God.(I)

32 Sing to God, you kingdoms of the earth;
sing praise to the Lord,(J)Selah
33 to him who rides in the ancient, highest heavens.(K)
Look, he thunders with his powerful voice!(L)
34 Ascribe power to God.
His majesty is over Israel;
his power is among the clouds.(M)
35 God, you are awe-inspiring in your sanctuaries.
The God of Israel gives power and strength to his people.
Blessed be God!(N)

2 Samuel 6:16-23

16 As the ark of the Lord was entering the city of David,(A) Saul’s daughter Michal looked down from the window and saw King David leaping and dancing before the Lord, and she despised him in her heart.

17 They brought the ark of the Lord and set it in its place inside the tent David had pitched for it.(B) Then David offered burnt offerings and fellowship offerings in the Lord’s presence. 18 When David had finished offering the burnt offering and the fellowship offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord of Armies. 19 Then he distributed a loaf of bread, a date cake, and a raisin cake to each one in the entire Israelite community, both men and women.(C) Then all the people went home.

20 When David returned home to bless his household,(D) Saul’s daughter Michal came out to meet him. “How the king of Israel honored himself today!” she said. “He exposed himself today in the sight of the slave girls of his subjects like a vulgar person would expose himself.”

21 David replied to Michal, “It was before the Lord who chose me over your father and his whole family to appoint me ruler over the Lord’s people Israel.(E) I will dance before the Lord, 22 and I will dishonor myself and humble myself even more.[a][b] However, by the slave girls you spoke about, I will be honored.” 23 And Saul’s daughter Michal had no child to the day of her death.

Luke 7:31-35

An Unresponsive Generation

31 “To what then should I compare the people of this generation, and what are they like? 32 They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling to each other:

We played the flute for you,
but you didn’t dance;
we sang a lament,
but you didn’t weep!

33 For John the Baptist did not come eating bread or drinking wine,(A) and you say, ‘He has a demon!’ 34 The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’(B) 35 Yet wisdom is vindicated by all her children.”
