Psalm 119:113-128

ס Samek

113 I hate those who are double-minded,(A)
but I love your instruction.(B)
114 You are my shelter and my shield;(C)
I put my hope in your word.(D)
115 Depart from me,(E) you evil ones,
so that I may obey my God’s commands.(F)
116 Sustain me as you promised,(G) and I will live;
do not let me be ashamed of my hope.(H)
117 Sustain me so that I can be safe(I)
and always be concerned about your statutes.(J)
118 You reject all who stray from your statutes,(K)
for their deceit is a lie.
119 You remove all the wicked on earth
as if they were[a] dross from metal;(L)
therefore, I love your decrees.(M)
120 I tremble[b] in awe of you;(N)
I fear your judgments.

ע Ayin

121 I have done what is just and right;(O)
do not leave me to my oppressors.
122 Guarantee your servant’s well-being;(P)
do not let the arrogant oppress me.
123 My eyes grow weary(Q) looking for your salvation
and for your righteous promise.
124 Deal with your servant based on your faithful love;(R)
teach me your statutes.
125 I am your servant;(S) give me understanding(T)
so that I may know your decrees.
126 It is time for the Lord to act,(U)
for they have violated your instruction.
127 Since I love your commands(V)
more than gold, even the purest gold,
128 I carefully follow all your precepts(W)
and hate every false way.(X)

1 Samuel 19:8-17

When war broke out again, David went out and fought against the Philistines. He defeated them with such great force that they fled from him.

Now an evil spirit sent from the Lord(A) came on Saul as he was sitting in his palace holding a spear.(B) David was playing the lyre,(C) 10 and Saul tried to pin David to the wall with the spear.(D) As the spear struck the wall, David eluded Saul, ran away, and escaped that night. 11 Saul sent agents to David’s house to watch for him and kill him in the morning.(E) But his wife Michal(F) warned David, “If you don’t escape tonight, you will be dead tomorrow!” 12 So she lowered David from the window, and he fled and escaped.(G) 13 Then Michal took the household idol and put it on the bed, placed some goat hair on its head, and covered it with a garment. 14 When Saul sent agents to seize David, Michal said, “He’s sick.”(H)

15 Saul sent the agents back to see David and said, “Bring him on his bed so I can kill him.” 16 When the agents arrived, to their surprise, the household idol was on the bed with some goat hair on its head.

17 Saul asked Michal, “Why did you deceive me like this? You sent my enemy away, and he has escaped!”

She answered him, “He said to me, ‘Let me go! Why should I kill you?’”

Mark 6:45-52

Walking on the Water

45 Immediately(A) he made his disciples get into the boat and go ahead of him to the other side, to Bethsaida,(B) while he dismissed the crowd. 46 After he said good-bye to them, he went away to the mountain(C) to pray.(D) 47 Well into the night, the boat was in the middle of the sea, and he was alone on the land. 48 He saw them straining(E) at the oars,[a] because the wind was against them. Very early in the morning[b] he came toward them walking on the sea and wanted to pass by them. 49 When they saw him walking on the sea, they thought it was a ghost(F) and cried out, 50 because they all saw him and were terrified.(G) Immediately he spoke with them and said, “Have courage!(H) It is I.(I) Don’t be afraid.”(J) 51 Then he got into the boat with them, and the wind ceased. They were completely astounded, 52 because they had not understood about the loaves. Instead, their hearts were hardened.(K)
