Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
12 Happy is the nation whose God is Yahweh—
the people He has chosen to be His own possession!(A)
13 The Lord looks down from heaven;
He observes everyone.(B)
14 He gazes on all the inhabitants of the earth
from His dwelling place.(C)
15 He alone shapes their hearts;
He considers all their works.(D)
16 A king is not saved by a large army;
a warrior will not be delivered by great strength.(E)
17 The horse is a false hope for safety;
it provides no escape by its great power.(F)
37 My heart(A) pounds at this
and leaps from my chest.[a]
2 Just listen to His thunderous voice
and the rumbling that comes from His mouth.
3 He lets it loose beneath the entire sky;
His lightning to the ends(B) of the earth.
4 Then there comes a roaring sound;
God thunders(C) with His majestic voice.
He does not restrain the lightning
when His rumbling voice is heard.
5 God thunders marvelously with His voice;
He does great things that we cannot comprehend.
6 For He says to the snow,(D) “Fall to the earth,”
and the torrential rains, His mighty torrential rains,
7 serve as His sign to all mankind,
so that all men may know His work.
8 The wild animals enter their lairs
and stay in their dens.(E)
9 The windstorm comes from its chamber,
and the cold from the driving north winds.
10 Ice is formed by the breath of God,(F)
and watery expanses are frozen.
11 He saturates clouds with moisture;(G)
He scatters His lightning through them.
12 They swirl about,
turning round and round at His direction,
accomplishing everything He commands them
over the surface of the inhabited world.
13 He causes this to happen for punishment,
for His land, or for His faithful love.
Victorious Resurrection
50 Brothers, I tell you this: Flesh(A) and blood(B) cannot inherit the kingdom of God, and corruption cannot inherit incorruption. 51 Listen! I am telling you a mystery:
We will not all fall asleep,
but we will all be changed,
52 in a moment, in the blink of an eye,
at the last trumpet.(C)
For the trumpet will sound,
and the dead will be raised incorruptible,
and we will be changed.
53 For this corruptible must be clothed(D)
with incorruptibility,(E)
and this mortal must be clothed
with immortality.
54 When this corruptible is clothed
with incorruptibility,
and this mortal is clothed
with immortality,
then the saying that is written will take place:
Death has been swallowed up(F) in victory.(G)[a]
55 Death, where is your victory?
Death, where is your sting?(H)[b]
56 Now the sting of death is sin,
and the power of sin(I) is the law.(J)
57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory(K)
through our Lord Jesus Christ!
