¹³ The Lord looks down from heaven;
He observes everyone.^(B)
14 He gazes on all the inhabitants of the earth
from His dwelling place.^(C)
15 He alone shapes their hearts;
He considers all their works.^(D)
16 A king is not saved by a large army;
a warrior will not be delivered by great strength.^(E)
17 The horse is a false hope for safety;
it provides no escape by its great power.^(F)

¹⁸ Now the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him—
those who depend on His faithful love^(G)
19 to deliver them from death
and to keep them alive in famine.^(H)

²⁰ We wait for Yahweh;^(I)
He is our help and shield.^(J)
21 For our hearts rejoice in Him^(K)
because we trust in His holy name.^(L)
22 May Your faithful love rest on us, Yahweh,
for we put our hope in You.^(M)

37 My heart^(A) pounds at this
and leaps from my chest.^[a]
2 Just listen to His thunderous voice
and the rumbling that comes from His mouth.
³ He lets it loose beneath the entire sky;
His lightning to the ends^(B) of the earth.

⁴ Then there comes a roaring sound;
God thunders^(C) with His majestic voice.
He does not restrain the lightning
when His rumbling voice is heard.
⁵ God thunders marvelously with His voice;
He does great things that we cannot comprehend.
⁶ For He says to the snow,^(D) “Fall to the earth,”
and the torrential rains, His mighty torrential rains,
⁷ serve as His sign to all mankind,
so that all men may know His work.
⁸ The wild animals enter their lairs
and stay in their dens.^(E)
9 The windstorm comes from its chamber,
and the cold from the driving north winds.
¹⁰ Ice is formed by the breath of God,^(F)
and watery expanses are frozen.
¹¹ He saturates clouds with moisture;^(G)
He scatters His lightning through them.
¹² They swirl about,
turning round and round at His direction,
accomplishing everything He commands them
over the surface of the inhabited world.
¹³ He causes this to happen for punishment,
for His land, or for His faithful love.

We will not all fall asleep,
but we will all be changed,
⁵² in a moment, in the blink of an eye,
at the last trumpet.^(C)
For the trumpet will sound,
and the dead will be raised incorruptible,
and we will be changed.
⁵³ For this corruptible must be clothed^(D)
with incorruptibility,^(E)
and this mortal must be clothed
with immortality.
⁵⁴ When this corruptible is clothed
with incorruptibility,
and this mortal is clothed
with immortality,
then the saying that is written will take place:
Death has been swallowed up^(F) in victory.^(G)[a]
55 Death, where is your victory?
Death, where is your sting?^(H)[b]
56 Now the sting of death is sin,
and the power of sin^(I) is the law.^(J)
57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory^(K)
through our Lord Jesus Christ!
