Version
Acts 1:15-17

Matthias Chosen

15 During these days Peter stood up among the brothers[a]—the number of people who were together was about 120—and said: 16 “Brothers, the Scripture had to be fulfilled that the Holy Spirit through the mouth of David spoke in advance about Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus.(A) 17 For he was one of our number and was allotted a share in this ministry.”(B)

Acts 1:21-26

21 “Therefore, from among the men who have accompanied us during the whole time the Lord Jesus went in and out among us— 22 beginning from the baptism of John until the day He was taken up from us—from among these, it is necessary that one become a witness with us of His resurrection.”(A)

23 So they proposed two: Joseph, called Barsabbas, who was also known as Justus, and Matthias.(B) 24 Then they prayed,(C) “You, Lord, know the hearts of all; show which of these two You have chosen(D) 25 to take the place[a] in this apostolic service(E) that Judas left to go to his own place.” 26 Then they cast lots(F) for them, and the lot fell to Matthias. So he was numbered with the 11 apostles.

Psalm 1

BOOK I
(Psalms 1–41)

Psalm 1

The Two Ways

How happy is the man
who does not follow[a] the advice of the wicked
or take[b] the path of sinners
or join a group[c] of mockers!(A)
Instead, his delight is in the Lord’s instruction,
and he meditates on it day and night.(B)
He is like a tree planted beside streams of water[d]
that bears its fruit in season[e](C)
and whose leaf does not wither.(D)
Whatever he does prospers.(E)

The wicked are not like this;
instead, they are like chaff that the wind blows away.(F)
Therefore the wicked will not survive[f] the judgment,(G)
and sinners will not be in the community of the righteous.

For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous,(H)
but the way of the wicked leads to ruin.(I)

1 John 5:9-13

If we accept the testimony of men, God’s testimony(A) is greater, because it is God’s testimony that He has given about His Son. 10 (The one who believes in the Son of God has this testimony within him. The one who does not believe God has made Him a liar,(B) because he has not believed in the testimony God has given about His Son.) 11 And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.

12 The one who has the Son has life.(C) The one who doesn’t have the Son of God does not have life. 13 I have written these things to you who believe in the name(D) of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.

John 17:6-19

Jesus Prays for His Disciples

I have revealed Your name(A)
to the men You gave Me(B) from the world.(C)
They were Yours, You gave them to Me,(D)
and they have kept Your word.(E)
Now they know that all things
You have given to Me are from You,
because the words that You gave Me,(F)
I have given them.
They have received them
and have known for certain
that I came from You.(G)
They have believed that You sent Me.
I pray[a] for them.
I am not praying for the world
but for those You have given Me,(H)
because they are Yours.
10 Everything I have is Yours,
and everything You have is Mine,(I)
and I have been glorified in them.
11 I am no longer in the world,
but they are in the world,
and I am coming to You.(J)
Holy(K) Father,
protect[b] them by Your name(L)
that You have given Me,
so that they may be one(M) as We are(N) one.
12 While I was with them,
I was protecting them by Your name
that You have given Me.
I guarded(O) them and not one of them is lost,
except the son of destruction,[c]
so that the Scripture(P) may be fulfilled.(Q)
13 Now I am coming to You,
and I speak these things in the world
so that they may have My joy completed in them.
14 I have given them Your word.
The world hated(R) them
because they are not of the world,(S)
as I am not of the world.(T)
15 I am not praying
that You take them out of the world
but that You protect them from the evil one.(U)
16 They are not of the world,
as I am not of the world.(V)
17 Sanctify[d](W) them by the truth;(X)
Your word is truth.
18 As You sent Me into the world,(Y)
I also have sent them into the world.
19 I sanctify Myself for them,
so they also may be sanctified by the truth.
