Acts 10:44-48

44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who were listening to the message. 45 All the circumcised believers who had come with Peter were amazed that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out, even on the Gentiles. 46 For they heard them speaking in other languages and praising God.

Then Peter responded, 47 “Certainly no one can refuse water for baptizing these people! They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have.” 48 He gave directions that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked him to stay for a few days.

Psalm 98

Psalm 98

Sing to the Lord a New Song

Heading
A psalm.

Invitation

Sing to the Lord a new song,
for he has done marvelous things.
His right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him.

Let His People Sing

The Lord has made his salvation known.
He has revealed his righteousness to the eyes of the nations.
He has remembered his mercy and his faithfulness
    to the house of Israel.
All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.

Let All People Sing

Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.
Break out in joyful song! Make music!
Make music to the Lord with the lyre,
with the lyre and the sound of music.
With trumpets and the sound of the ram’s horn
shout for joy before the King, the Lord.

Let the Whole Earth Sing

Let the sea roar, and everything that fills it,
the world, and all who live in it.
Let the rivers clap their hands.
Let the mountains sing for joy together before the Lord,
for he comes to judge the earth.
He will judge the world in righteousness
and the peoples with fairness.[a]

1 John 5:1-6

Faith, Love, and Obedience

Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the God who has given birth[a] also loves one who has been born of him. This is how we know that we love the children of God: when we love God and keep his commands. In fact, this is love for God: that we keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, because everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world: our faith. Who is the one who overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.

This is the one who came by water and blood: Jesus Christ. He did not come by the water alone but by the water and by the blood. The Spirit is the one who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.

John 15:9-17

“As the Father has loved me, so also I have loved you. Remain in my love. 10 If you hold on to my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have held on to my Father’s commands and remain in his love. 11 I have told you these things so that my joy would continue to be in you and that your joy would be complete.

12 “This is my command: Love one another as I have loved you. 13 No one has greater love than this: that someone lays down his life for his friends. 14 You are my friends if you continue to do the things I instruct you. 15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know what his master is doing. But I have called you friends, because everything that I heard from my Father, I have made known to you. 16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit, fruit that will endure, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. 17 These things I am instructing you, so that you love one another.
