Psalm 95

Psalm 95

Worship and Warning

Come, let’s shout joyfully to the Lord,
shout triumphantly to the rock of our salvation!(A)
Let’s enter his presence with thanksgiving;
let’s shout triumphantly to him in song.(B)

For the Lord is a great God,
a great King above all gods.(C)
The depths of the earth are in his hand,
and the mountain peaks are his.(D)
The sea is his; he made it.
His hands formed the dry land.(E)

Come, let’s worship and bow down;
let’s kneel before the Lord our Maker.(F)
For he is our God,
and we are the people of his pasture,
the sheep under his care.[a](G)
Today, if you hear his voice:(H)
Do not harden your hearts as at Meribah,
as on that day at Massah in the wilderness(I)
where your ancestors tested me;
they tried me, though they had seen what I did.(J)
10 For forty years I was disgusted with that generation;
I said, “They are a people whose hearts go astray;
they do not know my ways.”(K)
11 So I swore in my anger,
“They will not enter my rest.”(L)

Micah 7:8-20

Zion’s Vindication

Do not rejoice over me,(A) my enemy!
Though I have fallen, I will stand up;(B)
though I sit in darkness,
the Lord will be my light.(C)
Because I have sinned against him,
I must endure the Lord’s fury
until he champions my cause(D)
and establishes justice for me.(E)
He will bring me into the light;(F)
I will see his salvation.[a](G)
10 Then my enemy will see,
and she will be covered with shame,
the one who said to me,
“Where is the Lord your God?” (H)
My eyes will look at her in triumph;
at that time she will be trampled
like mud in the streets.(I)

11 A day will come for rebuilding your walls;(J)
on that day your boundary will be extended.(K)
12 On that day people will come to you(L)
from Assyria and the cities of Egypt,
even from Egypt to the Euphrates River
and from sea to sea
and mountain to mountain.
13 Then the earth will become a wasteland(M)
because of its inhabitants
and as a result of their actions.(N)

Micah’s Prayer Answered

14 Shepherd your people(O) with your staff,(P)
the flock that is your possession.
They live alone(Q) in a woodland
surrounded by pastures.
Let them graze in Bashan and Gilead(R)
as in ancient times.(S)

15 I will perform miracles for them[b]
as in the days of your exodus
from the land of Egypt.(T)
16 Nations will see and be ashamed
of[c] all their power.
They will put their hands over their mouths,(U)
and their ears will become deaf.
17 They will lick the dust like a snake;(V)
they will come trembling out of their hiding places(W)
like reptiles slithering on the ground.(X)
They will tremble in the presence of the Lord our God;(Y)
they will stand in awe of you.

18 Who is a God like you,(Z)
forgiving iniquity and passing over rebellion(AA)
for the remnant of his inheritance?(AB)
He does not hold on to his anger forever(AC)
because he delights in faithful love.(AD)
19 He will again have compassion on us;
he will vanquish our iniquities.(AE)
You will cast all our[d] sins
into the depths of the sea.(AF)
20 You will show loyalty to Jacob(AG)
and faithful love to Abraham,
as you swore to our ancestors(AH)
from days long ago.

Mark 14:26-31

26 After singing a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.(A)

Peter’s Denial Predicted

27 Then(B) Jesus said to them, “All of you will fall away,[a] because it is written:(C)

I will strike the shepherd,
and the sheep(D) will be scattered.[b](E)

28 But after I have risen,(F) I will go ahead of you to Galilee.”(G)

29 Peter(H) told him, “Even if everyone falls away, I will not.”

30 “Truly I tell you,” Jesus said to him, “today, this very night, before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times.”(I)

31 But he kept insisting, “If I have to die with you, I will never deny you.” And they all said the same thing.
