A Night Prayer

For the choir director: with stringed instruments.(A) A Davidic psalm.

Answer me when I call,
God, who vindicates me.[a](B)
You freed me from affliction;(C)
be gracious to me and hear my prayer.

How long, exalted men, will my honor be insulted?(D)
How long will you love what is worthless(E)
and pursue a lie?Selah
Know that the Lord has set apart
the faithful for Himself;
the Lord will hear when I call to Him.
Be angry[b] and do not sin;(F)
on your bed, reflect in your heart and be still.(G)Selah
Offer sacrifices in righteousness[c](H)
and trust in the Lord.(I)

Many are saying, “Who can show us anything good?”
Look on us with favor, Lord.(J)

You have put more joy in my heart
than they have when their grain and new wine abound.(K)
I will both lie down and sleep in peace,(L)
for You alone, Lord, make me live in safety.(M)

Acts 3:1-10

Healing of a Lame Man

Now Peter and John were going up together to the temple complex at the hour of prayer(A) at three in the afternoon.[a] And a man who was lame from birth was carried there and placed every day at the temple gate called Beautiful, so he could beg from those entering the temple complex.(B) When he saw Peter and John about to enter the temple complex, he asked for help. Peter, along with John, looked at him intently and said, “Look at us.” So he turned to them,[b] expecting to get something from them. But Peter said, “I don’t have silver or gold, but what I have, I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, get up and walk!”(C) Then, taking him by the right hand he raised him up, and at once his feet and ankles became strong. So he jumped up, stood, and started to walk, and he entered the temple complex with them—walking, leaping, and praising God.(D) All the people saw him walking and praising God, 10 and they recognized that he was the one who used to sit and beg at the Beautiful Gate of the temple complex. So they were filled with awe and astonishment at what had happened to him.(E)

Luke 22:24-30

The Dispute over Greatness

24 Then a dispute also arose among them about who should be considered the greatest.(A) 25 But He said to them,(B) “The kings of the Gentiles dominate them, and those who have authority over them are called[a] ‘Benefactors.’[b] 26 But it must not be like that among you. On the contrary, whoever is greatest among you must become like the youngest,(C) and whoever leads, like the one serving. 27 For who is greater, the one at the table or the one serving? Isn’t it the one at the table? But I am among you as the One who serves.(D) 28 You are the ones who stood by Me in My trials.(E) 29 I bestow on you a kingdom,(F) just as My Father bestowed one on Me, 30 so that you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom.(G) And you will sit on thrones judging the 12 tribes of Israel.(H)
