Psalm 102:12-28

12 But, Lord, you ·rule [L are enthroned] forever,
    and your ·fame [memory] ·goes on and on [L throughout the generations].
13 You will ·come [L rise up] and have ·mercy [compassion] on ·Jerusalem [L Zion; C the location of the Temple],
    because the time has now come to be ·kind [gracious] to her;
    the ·right [appointed] time has come.
14 Your servants ·love even [are pleased/delighted with] her stones;
    they even ·care about [L have pity/compassion for] her dust.
15 Nations will fear the name of the Lord,
    and all the kings on earth ·will honor you [L your glory; C God’s manifest presence].
16 The Lord will rebuild ·Jerusalem [L Zion; C the location of the Temple];
    there his glory [C manifest presence] will be seen.
17 He will answer the prayers of the ·needy [lowly; L naked];
    he will not ·reject [despise] their prayers.

18 Write these things for ·the future [L a future generation]
    so that people who are not yet ·born [created] will praise the Lord.
19 The Lord looked down from his holy place above;
    from heaven he ·looked [gazed] down at the earth.
20 He heard the ·moans [groans] of the prisoners,
    and he ·freed [released] those sentenced to die.
21 The name of the Lord will be ·heard [recounted] in ·Jerusalem [L Zion; C the location of the Temple];
    his praise ·will be heard there [L in Jerusalem].
22 People will ·come [gather] together,
    and kingdoms will serve the Lord.

23 ·God has made me tired of living [He broke my strength in midcourse/L the way];
    he has cut short my ·life [L days].
24 So I said, “My God, do not take me in the middle of my ·life [L days].
    Your years ·go on and on [endure for generations].
25 In the beginning you ·made [founded] the earth,
    and ·your hands made the skies [L the heavens are the work of your hands; Gen. 1].
26 They will be destroyed, but you will ·remain [endure].
    They will all wear out like ·clothes [garments].
And, like clothes, you will change them
    and throw them away.
27 But you ·never change [are the same/L he],
    and your ·life [L years] will never end.
28 ·Our children [L The children of your servants] will live in your presence,
    and their ·children [offspring; L seed] will remain with you.”

2 Kings 4:8-17

The Shunammite Woman

One day Elisha went to Shunem, where an ·important [prominent; wealthy] woman lived. She ·begged [urged; pressed] Elisha to stay and eat. So every time Elisha passed by, he stopped there to eat. The woman said to her husband, “I ·know that [am sure] this is a holy man of God who passes by our house ·all the time [often]. 10 Let’s make a small walled room on the roof [C roofs were flat and served as an extra room] and put a bed in the room for him. We can put a table, a chair, and a lampstand there. Then when he comes by, he can stay there.”

11 One day Elisha came to the woman’s house. After he went to ·his [the upper] room and rested, 12 he said to his servant Gehazi, “Call the Shunammite woman.”

When the servant had called her, she stood in front of him. 13 Elisha had told his servant, “Now say to her, ‘You have gone to all this trouble for us. What can I do for you? Do you want me to speak to the king or the commander of the army for you?’”

She answered, “I live among my own people [C a way of saying she is content and has no pressing needs].”

14 Elisha said to Gehazi, “But what can we do for her?”

He answered, “She has no son, and her husband is old.”

15 Then Elisha said to Gehazi, “Call her.” When he called her, she stood in the doorway. 16 Then Elisha said, “This ·time [season] next year, you will hold a son in your arms.”

The woman said, “No, ·master [lord], man of God, don’t ·lie to [deceive; mislead] me, your servant!”

17 But the woman ·became pregnant [conceived] and gave birth to a son at that ·time [season] the next year, just as Elisha had told her.

2 Kings 4:32-37

32 When Elisha came into the house, the boy was lying dead on ·his [Elisha’s] bed. 33 Elisha entered the room and shut the door on the two of them. Then he prayed to the Lord. 34 He went to the bed and lay on the boy, putting his mouth on the boy’s mouth, his eyes on the boy’s eyes, and his hands on the boy’s hands. He stretched himself out on top of the boy. Soon the boy’s ·skin [body; L flesh] became warm. 35 Elisha ·turned away [got up] and walked ·around [back and forth once across] the room. Then he went back and ·put himself [stretched out] on the boy again. The boy sneezed seven times and opened his eyes.

36 Elisha called Gehazi and said, “Call the Shunammite!” So he did. When she came, Elisha said, “·Pick up [Take] your son.” 37 She came in and fell at Elisha’s feet, bowing facedown to the floor. Then she ·picked up [took] her son and went out.

Acts 14:1-7

Paul and Barnabas in Iconium

14 In Iconium [13:51], ·Paul and Barnabas [L they] went as usual to the Jewish synagogue [C they typically appealed to their fellow Jews first]. They spoke ·so well [L in such a way] that a great many Jews and Greeks believed. But the Jews who did not believe ·excited [stirred up] the Gentiles and ·turned them [poisoned their minds; L harmed/did evil to their souls] against the ·believers [L brothers (and sisters)]. [L So; Therefore] ·Paul and Barnabas [L They] stayed in Iconium a long time and spoke ·bravely [or boldly] for the Lord. He ·showed [testified; confirmed] that their ·message [word] about his grace was true by giving them the power to work [miraculous] signs and ·miracles [wonders]. But [L the people/population of] the city was divided. Some of the people agreed with the Jews, and others ·believed [L were with] the apostles.

Some Gentiles, some Jews, and some of their rulers ·wanted [intended; plotted] to mistreat Paul and Barnabas and to stone them to death. When ·Paul and Barnabas [L they] learned about this, they ·ran away [fled; escaped] to Lystra [C eighteen miles south of Iconium] and Derbe [C sixty miles southeast from Lystra], cities in Lycaonia [C the administrative district], and to the areas around those cities. They ·announced the Good News [preached the Gospel] there, too.
