Psalm 147:1-11

147 1 The Prophet praiseth the bounty, wisdom, power, justice, and providence of God upon all his creatures. 2 But specially upon his Church, which he gathereth together after their dispersion, 19 Declaring his word and judgment so unto them, as he hath done to none other people.

Praise ye the Lord, for it is good to sing unto our God: for it is a [a]pleasant thing, and praise is comely.

The Lord doth build up [b]Jerusalem, and gather together the dispersed of Israel.

He healeth those that are [c]broken in heart, and bindeth up their sores.

He [d]counteth the number of the stars, and calleth them all by their names.

Great is our Lord, and great is his power: his wisdom is infinite.

The Lord relieveth the meek, and abaseth the wicked to the [e]ground.

Sing unto the Lord with praise: sing upon the harp unto our God,

Which [f]covereth the heaven with clouds, and prepareth rain for the earth, and maketh the grass to grow upon the mountains:

Which giveth to beasts their food, and to the young ravens that [g]cry.

10 He hath no pleasure in the [h]strength of an horse, neither delighteth he in the legs of man.

11 But the Lord delighteth in them that fear him, and attend upon his mercy.

Psalm 147:20

20 He hath not dealt so with every nation, neither have they [a]known his judgments. Praise ye the Lord.

Job 36:1-23

36 1 Elihu showeth the power of God. 6 And his justice. 9 And wherefore he punisheth. 13 The property of the wicked.

Elihu also proceeded and said,

Suffer me a little and I will instruct thee: for I have yet to speak on God’s behalf.

I will fetch [a]my knowledge afar off, and will attribute righteousness unto my maker.

For truly my words shall not be false, and he that is [b]perfect in knowledge, speaketh with thee.

Behold, the mighty God casteth away none that is [c]mighty and valiant of courage.

He [d]maintaineth not the wicked, but he giveth judgment to the afflicted.

He withdraweth not his eyes from the righteous, but they are with [e]kings in the throne, where he placeth them forever: thus they are exalted.

And if they be bound in fetters and tied with the cords of affliction,

Then will he show them their [f]work and their sins, because they have been proud.

10 He openeth also their ear to discipline, and commandeth them that they return from iniquity.

11 (A)If they obey and serve him, they shall end their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures:

12 But if they will not obey, they shall pass by the sword and perish [g]without knowledge.

13 But the hypocrites [h]of heart increase the wrath: for they [i]call not when he bindeth them.

14 Their soul dieth in [j]youth, and their life among the whoremongers.

15 He delivereth the poor in his afflictions, and openeth their ear in trouble.

16 Even so would he have taken thee out of the straight place into a broad place, and not shut up beneath: and [k]that which resteth upon thy table had been full of fat.

17 But thou art full of the [l]judgment of the wicked, though judgment and equity maintain all things.

18 [m]For God’s wrath is, lest he should take thee away in thine abundance: for no multitude of gifts can deliver thee.

19 Will he regard thy riches? he regardeth not gold, nor all them that excel in strength.

20 [n]Be not careful in the night, how he destroyeth the people out of their place.

21 Take thou heed: look not to [o]iniquity: for thou hast chosen it rather than affliction.

22 Behold, God exalteth by his power: what teacher is like him?

23 Who hath appointed to him his way? or who can say, Thou hast done wickedly?

1 Corinthians 9:1-16

1 He declareth, that from the liberty which the Lord gave him, 15 he willingly abstained, 18, 22 lest in things indifferent he should offend any. 24 He showeth that our life is like unto a race.

Am [a]I not an Apostle? am I not free? [b]have I not seen Jesus Christ our Lord? are ye not my work [c]in the Lord?

If I be not an Apostle unto others, yet doubtless I am unto you: for ye are the [d]seal of mine Apostleship in the Lord.

[e]My defense to him that [f]examine me, is this,

[g]Have we not power to [h]eat and to drink?

Or have we not power to lead about a wife being a [i]sister, as well as the rest of the Apostles, and as the brethren of the Lord, and Cephas?

Or I only and Barnabas, have not we power [j]not to work?

[k]Who [l]goeth a warfare any time at his own cost? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock?

[m]Say I these things [n]according to man? saith not the Law the same also?

For it is written in the Law of Moses, (A)Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn: doth God take care for [o]oxen?

10 Either saith he it not altogether for our sakes? For our sakes no doubt it is written, that he which eareth, should ear in hope, and that he that thresheth in hope, should be partaker of his hope.

11 (B)[p]If we have sown unto you spiritual things, is it a great thing if we reap your carnal things?

12 [q]If others with you be partakers of this [r]power, are not we rather? nevertheless, we have not used this power: but suffer all things, that we should not hinder the Gospel of Christ.

13 [s]Do ye not know, that they which minister about the (C)holy things, eat of the [t]things of the Temple? and they which wait at the altar, are [u]partakers with the altar?

14 So also hath the Lord ordained, that they which preach the Gospel, should live [v]of the Gospel.

15 But I have used none of these things: [w]neither wrote I these things, that it should be so done unto me: for it were better for me to die, than that any man should make my rejoicing vain.

16 For though I preach the Gospel, I have nothing to rejoice of: for necessity is laid upon me, and woe is unto me, if I preach not the Gospel.
