Psalm 147

God Restores Jerusalem

Hallelujah!
How good it is to sing to our God,
for praise is pleasant and lovely.(A)

The Lord rebuilds Jerusalem;(B)
He gathers Israel’s exiled people.(C)
He heals the brokenhearted
and binds up their wounds.(D)
He counts the number of the stars;
He gives names to all of them.(E)
Our Lord is great, vast in power;
His understanding is infinite.[a](F)
The Lord helps the afflicted
but brings the wicked to the ground.(G)

Sing to the Lord with thanksgiving;
play the lyre to our God,(H)
who covers the sky with clouds,
prepares rain for the earth,
and causes grass to grow on the hills.(I)
He provides the animals with their food,
and the young ravens, what they cry for.(J)

10 He is not impressed by the strength of a horse;
He does not value the power[b] of a man.(K)
11 The Lord values those who fear Him,
those who put their hope in His faithful love.(L)

Psalm 147:20

20 He has not done this for any nation;
they do not know[a] His judgments.(A)
Hallelujah!

Proverbs 12:10-21

10 A righteous man cares about his animal’s health,(A)
but even the merciful acts of the wicked are cruel.

11 The one who works his land will have plenty of food,(B)
but whoever chases fantasies lacks sense.(C)

12 The wicked desire what evil men have,[a]
but the root of the righteous produces fruit.

13 An evil man is trapped by his rebellious speech,(D)
but a righteous one escapes from trouble.(E)

14 A man will be satisfied with good
by the words of his mouth,(F)
and the work of a man’s hands will reward him.(G)

15 A fool’s way is right in his own eyes,(H)
but whoever listens to counsel is wise.

16 A fool’s displeasure is known at once,
but whoever ignores an insult is sensible.(I)

17 Whoever speaks the truth declares what is right,
but a false witness, deceit.(J)

18 There is one who speaks rashly,
like a piercing sword;(K)
but the tongue of the wise brings healing.(L)

19 Truthful lips endure forever,
but a lying tongue, only a moment.(M)

20 Deceit is in the hearts of those who plot evil,
but those who promote peace have joy.(N)

21 No disaster overcomes the righteous,(O)
but the wicked are full of misery.

Galatians 5:2-15

Take note! I, Paul, tell you that if you get yourselves circumcised, Christ will not benefit you at all. Again I testify to every man who gets himself circumcised that he is obligated to keep the entire law. You who are trying to be justified by the law are alienated from Christ; you have fallen from grace.(A) For through the Spirit, by faith, we eagerly wait(B) for the hope(C) of righteousness. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision accomplishes anything; what matters is faith(D) working through love.(E)

You were running well. Who prevented you from obeying the truth?(F) This persuasion did not come from the One who called you.(G) A little yeast leavens the whole lump of dough. 10 I have confidence in the Lord you will not accept any other view. But whoever it is that is confusing you will pay the penalty.(H) 11 Now brothers, if I still preach circumcision, why am I still persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross(I) has been abolished. 12 I wish those who are disturbing you might also get themselves castrated!

13 For you were called(J) to be free, brothers; only don’t use this freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but serve one another through love. 14 For the entire law is fulfilled(K) in one statement: Love your neighbor as yourself.(L)[a] 15 But if you bite and devour(M) one another, watch out, or you will be consumed by one another.
