Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
A Song of degrees.
1 ¶ Blessed is every one that fears the LORD, that walks in his ways.
2 When thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands; happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well with thee.
3 Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thy house; thy children like olive plants round about thy table.
4 Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed that fears the LORD.
5 The LORD shall bless thee out of Zion, and thou shalt see the good of Jerusalem all the days of thy life.
6 Yea, thou shalt see thy children’s children and peace upon Israel.
12 Then Joshua spoke unto the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the sons of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon.
13 And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed until the nation had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of righteousness? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven and hastened not to go down about a whole day.
14 And there was no day like that before it or after it that the LORD hearkened unto the voice of a man; for the LORD fought for Israel.
15 ¶ Then certain scribes and Pharisees of Jerusalem came unto Jesus, saying,
2 Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat bread.
3 But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?
4 For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother, and, He that curses father or mother, let him die without recourse.
5 But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, Whatever I might have helped thee with is already my offering unto God,
6 and now has no need to honour his father or his mother with succour. Thus ye have made the commandment of God of no effect by your tradition.
7 Ye hypocrites, well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying,
8 This people draws nigh unto me with their mouth and honours me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.
9 But in vain do they worship me, teaching doctrines and commandments of men.
