Psalm 90
Eternal God and Mortal Man
A prayer of Moses, the man of God.
1 Lord, You have been our refuge[a]
in every generation.(A)
2 Before the mountains were born,
before You gave birth to the earth and the world,
from eternity to eternity, You are God.(B)
3 You return mankind to the dust,
saying, “Return, descendants of Adam.”(C)
4 For in Your sight a thousand years
are like yesterday that passes by,
like a few hours of the night.(D)
5 You end their lives;[b] they sleep.(E)
They are like grass that grows in the morning—
6 in the morning it sprouts and grows;
by evening it withers and dries up.(F)
13 Lord—how long?
Turn and have compassion on Your servants.(A)
14 Satisfy us in the morning with Your faithful love
so that we may shout with joy and be glad all our days.(B)
15 Make us rejoice for as many days as You have humbled us,
for as many years as we have seen adversity.(C)
16 Let Your work be seen by Your servants,
and Your splendor by their children.(D)
17 Let the favor of the Lord our God be on us;
establish for us the work of our hands—
establish the work of our hands!(E)
14 The Lord said to Moses, “The time of your death is now approaching. Call Joshua and present yourselves at the tent of meeting so that I may commission him.” When Moses and Joshua went and presented themselves at the tent of meeting, 15 the Lord appeared at the tent in a pillar of cloud, and the cloud stood at the entrance to the tent.(A)
16 The Lord said to Moses, “You are about to rest with your fathers, and these people will soon commit adultery with the foreign gods of the land they are entering. They will abandon Me and break the covenant(B) I have made with them. 17 My anger will burn against them on that day; I will abandon them and hide My face from them so that they will become easy prey.[a] Many troubles and afflictions will come to them. On that day they will say, ‘Haven’t these troubles come to us because our God is no longer with us?’ 18 I will certainly hide My face on that day because of all the evil they have done by turning to other gods. 19 Therefore write down this song(C) for yourselves and teach it to the Israelites; have them recite it,[b] so that this song may be a witness for Me against the Israelites. 20 When I bring them into the land I swore to give their fathers, a land flowing with milk and honey,(D) they will eat their fill(E) and prosper.[c] They will turn to other gods and worship them, despising Me and breaking My covenant.(F) 21 And when many troubles and afflictions come to them, this song will testify against them, because[d] their descendants will not have forgotten it. For I know what they are prone to do,[e] even before I bring them into the land I swore to give them.” 22 So Moses wrote down this song on that day and taught it to the Israelites.
Titus’s Ministry in Crete
5 The reason I left you in Crete(A) was to set right what was left undone and, as I directed you, to appoint elders(B) in every town: 6 one(C) who is blameless,(D) the husband of one wife, having faithful[a] children not accused of wildness or rebellion. 7 For an overseer,(E) as God’s administrator, must be blameless, not arrogant, not hot-tempered, not addicted to wine, not a bully, not greedy for money, 8 but hospitable, loving what is good, sensible, righteous, holy, self-controlled, 9 holding to the faithful message as taught,(F) so that he will be able both to encourage with sound teaching(G) and to refute those who contradict it.
10 For there are also many rebellious people, full of empty talk and deception, especially those from Judaism.[b] 11 It is necessary to silence them; they overthrow whole households by teaching what they shouldn’t in order to get money dishonestly. 12 One of their very own prophets said,
Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.[c]
13 This testimony is true.(H) So, rebuke them sharply,(I) that they may be sound in the faith 14 and may not pay attention to Jewish myths(J) and the commands of men who reject the truth.(K)
15 To the pure, everything is pure, but to those who are defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure; in fact, both their mind and conscience(L) are defiled. 16 They profess to know God,(M) but they deny Him by their works.(N) They are detestable, disobedient, and disqualified for any good work.(O)
