ZAIN

⁴⁹ Remember the Promise made to Your servant, wherein You have caused me to trust.

⁵⁰ It is my comfort in my trouble. Your Promise has quickened me.

⁵¹ The proud deride me exceedingly, yet have I not turned away from Your Law.

⁵² I remembered Your Judgments of old, O LORD, and have been comforted.

⁵³ Burning indignation has come upon me because of the wicked, who forsake Your Law.

⁵⁴ Your Statutes have been my songs in the house of my pilgrimage.

⁵⁵ I have remembered Your Name, O LORD, in the night, and have kept Your Law.

⁵⁶ This is because I kept Your Precepts.

5 Then Moses called all Israel, and said to them, “Hear, O Israel, the Ordinances and the Laws which I propose to you this day, so that you may learn them and be careful to observe them.

² “The LORD our God made a Covenant with us in Horeb.

³ “The LORD did not only make this Covenant with our fathers, but with us. That is, all of us here alive this day.

⁴ “The LORD talked with you face to face on the Mount, out of the midst of the fire.

⁵ “At that time, I stood between the LORD and you, to declare to you the Word of the LORD. For you were afraid at the sight of the fire and did not go up on the Mount. And He said,

⁶ ‘I am the LORD your God, Who has brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.

⁷ ‘You shall have no other gods before My Face.

⁸ ‘You shall make no graven image for yourself, any likeness that is in Heaven above, which is in the Earth beneath, or that is in the waters under the Earth.

⁹ ‘You shall neither bow yourself to them, nor serve them. For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, even to the third and fourth generation of those who hate Me,

¹⁰ ‘and showing mercy to thousands of those who love Me and keep My Commandments.

¹¹ ‘You shall not take the Name of the LORD your God in vain. For the LORD will not hold him guiltless who lifts up His Name in a frivolous way.

¹² ‘Keep the Sabbath day, to sanctify it, as the LORD your God has Commanded you.

¹³ ‘Six days you shall labor and shall do all your work.

¹⁴ ‘But the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God. You shall not do any work—you or your son or your daughter or your manservant or your maid or your ox or your donkey or any of your cattle or the stranger that is within your gates—so that your manservant and your maid may rest as well as you.

¹⁵ ‘For, remember that you were a servant in the land of Egypt. And the LORD your God brought you out from there by a mighty Hand and an outstretched Arm. Therefore, the LORD your God Commanded you to observe the Sabbath day.

¹⁶ ‘Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your God has Commanded you, so that your days may be prolonged and that it may go well with you upon the land which the LORD your God gives you.

¹⁷ ‘You shall not kill.

¹⁸ ‘Nor shall you commit adultery.

¹⁹ ‘Nor shall you steal.

²⁰ ‘Nor shall you bear false witness against your neighbor.

²¹ ‘Nor shall you covet your neighbor’s wife. Nor shall you desire your neighbor’s house, his field, his manservant, his maid, his ox, his donkey or anything that your neighbor has.’

⁴ coming to Him as to a living stone, indeed rejected by man but chosen by God and precious.

⁵ You also, as living stones, are being built up into a spiritual house, a holy priesthood; to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

⁶ Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture, “Behold, I put a Chief Cornerstone in Zion, elect and precious. And the one who believes in Him shall not be put to shame.”

⁷ Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious. But to those who are disobedient, “the Stone which the builders rejected, the same has become the Chief Cornerstone,”

⁸ and, “a Stone of stumbling and a Rock of offense,” to those who stumble at the Word, being disobedient. To this they were also appointed.

⁹ But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people who are a Possession; so that you would show forth the virtues of the One Who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.

¹⁰ In the past, you were not a people, yet are now the people of God, who in the past were not under mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
