Version
Exodus 1:8-2:10

¶ Now there arose up a new king over Egypt, who knew not Joseph.

And he said unto his people, Behold, the people of the sons of Israel are more and mightier than we.

10 Now, therefore, let us be wise concerning him, that he not multiply and it come to pass that when war comes, he shall also join with our enemies and fight against us and so leave the land.

11 Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with their burdens. And they built the supply cities for Pharaoh: Pithom and Raamses.

12 But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew, so much that they loathed the sons of Israel.

13 And the Egyptians made the sons of Israel serve with rigor,

14 and they made their lives bitter with hard bondage, making mortar and brick and in all manner of service in the field; all their service, in which they made them serve, was with rigor.

15 ¶ And the king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives, one of whom was named Shiphrah and another named Puah;

16 and he said, When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women and see the sex, if it is a son, then ye shall kill him; but if it is a daughter, then she shall live.

17 But the midwives feared God and did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them but gave the men children their lives.

18 And the king of Egypt called for the midwives and said unto them, Why have ye done this thing and have given the men children their lives?

19 And the midwives said unto Pharaoh, Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women, for they are lively and are delivered before the midwives come in unto them.

20 Therefore God dealt well with the midwives, and the people multiplied and waxed very mighty.

21 And it came to pass because the midwives feared God, that he made them houses.

22 Then Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall give them their lives.

¶ And a man of the house of Levi went and took to wife a daughter of Levi,

who conceived and gave birth to a son, and seeing that he was beautiful, she hid him three months.

And when she could no longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes and daubed it with slime and with pitch and put the child in it, and she laid it in the reeds by the river’s brink.

And his sister stood afar off to see what would happen to him.

¶ And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to wash herself at the river, and walking with her maidens along by the river’s side, she saw the ark among the reeds; she sent her maid to bring it.

And when she had opened it, she saw the child, and, behold, the babe wept. And having compassion on him, she said, This is one of the Hebrews’ children.

Then his sister said unto Pharaoh’s daughter, Shall I go and call to thee a nurse of the Hebrew women that she may nurse the child for thee?

And Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, Go. And the maid went and called the child’s mother.

And Pharaoh’s daughter said unto her, Take this child away and nurse it for me, and I will give thee thy wages. And the woman took the child and nursed it.

10 And when the child grew, she brought him unto Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. And she called his name Moses, for she said, Because I drew him out of the water.

Psalm 124

A Song of degrees of David.

¶ If the LORD had not been for us, now may Israel say,

If the LORD had not been for us, when men rose up against us,

then they would have swallowed us up alive, when their wrath was kindled against us;

then the waters would have overwhelmed us; the flood would have gone over our soul;

then the proud waters would have gone over our soul.

¶ Blessed be the LORD, who did not give us as a prey to their teeth.

Our soul has escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers; the snare has broken, and we are escaped.

Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made the heaven and the earth.

Romans 12:1-8

12 ¶ Therefore, I beseech you brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies in living sacrifice, holy, well pleasing unto God, which is your rational worship.

And be not conformed to this age, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your soul that ye may experience what is that good and well pleasing and perfect will of God.

Therefore I say through the grace given unto me, to all those that are among you not to obtain more knowledge than is prudent to know, but to obtain knowledge with temperance, each one according to the measure of faith that God has dealt.

For in the manner that we have many members in one body, nevertheless all the members do not have the same operation;

likewise many of us are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.

So that having different gifts according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, according to the measure of faith;

or ministry, in serving; or he that teaches, in doctrine;

he that exhorts, in exhortation; he that gives, let him do it in simplicity; he that presides, in earnest care; he that shows mercy, in cheerfulness.

Matthew 16:13-20

13 ¶ When Jesus came into the parts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Who do men say that I the Son of man am?

14 And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist; some, Elijah; and others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.

15 He said unto them, But who say ye that I am?

16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon son of Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed it unto thee, but my Father who is in the heavens.

18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, a small rock and upon the large rock I will build my congregation, {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against her.

19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of the heavens, and whatever thou shalt bind on the earth shall be bound in the heavens, and whatever thou shalt loose on the earth shall be loosed in the heaven.

20 Then he charged his disciples that they should tell no one that he was Jesus the Christ.
