17 Unto the end, for David the servant of the Lord, who spoke to the Lord the words of this canticle, in the day that the Lord delivered him from the hands of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul. [2 Kings 22.]

² I will love thee, O Lord, my strength:

³ The Lord is my firmament, my refuge, and my deliverer. My God is my helper, and in him will I put my trust. My protector and the horn of my salvation, and my support.

⁴ Praising I will call upon the Lord: and I shall be saved from my enemies.

⁵ The sorrows of death surrounded me: and the torrents of iniquity troubled me.

⁶ The sorrows of hell encompassed me: and the snares of death prevented me.

⁷ In my affliction I called upon the Lord, and I cried to my God: And he heard my voice from his holy temple: and my cry before him came into his ears.

¹⁵ And he sent forth his arrows, and he scattered them: he multiplied lightnings, and troubled them.

14 Her time is near at hand, and her days shall not be prolonged. For the Lord will have mercy on Jacob, and will yet choose out of Israel, and will make them rest upon their own ground: and the stranger shall be joined with them, and shall adhere to the house of Jacob.

² And the people shall take them, and bring them into their place: and the house of Israel shall possess them in the land of the Lord for servants and handmaids: and they shall make them captives that had taken them, and shall subdue their oppressors.

¹⁰ Now I rejoice in the Lord exceedingly, that now at length your thought for me hath flourished again, as you did also think; but you were busied.

¹¹ I speak not as it were for want. For I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, to be content therewith.

¹² I know both how to be brought low, and I know how to abound: (everywhere, and in all things I am instructed) both to be full, and to be hungry; both to abound, and to suffer need.

¹³ I can do all these things in him who strengtheneth me.

¹⁴ Nevertheless you have done well in communicating to my tribulation.

¹⁵ And you also know, O Philippians, that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but you only:
