Psalm 105:1-11

The Lord’s Wonderful Works in Behalf of Israel.

105 Oh (A)give thanks to the Lord, (B)call upon His name;
(C)Make known His deeds among the peoples.
Sing to Him, (D)sing praises to Him;
[a](E)Speak of all His [b]wonders.
[c]Glory in His holy name;
Let the (F)heart of those who seek the Lord be glad.
Seek the Lord and (G)His strength;
(H)Seek His face continually.
Remember His [d](I)wonders which He has done,
His marvels and the (J)judgments [e]uttered by His mouth,
O seed of (K)Abraham, His servant,
O sons of (L)Jacob, His (M)chosen ones!
He is the Lord our God;
His (N)judgments are in all the earth.

He has (O)remembered His covenant forever,
The word which He commanded to a (P)thousand generations,
The (Q)covenant which He made with Abraham,
And His (R)oath to Isaac.
10 Then He (S)confirmed it to Jacob for a statute,
To Israel as an everlasting covenant,
11 Saying, “(T)To you I will give the land of Canaan
As the [f](U)portion of your inheritance,”

Psalm 105:45

45 So that they might (A)keep His statutes
And observe His laws,
[a]Praise [b]the Lord!

Genesis 29:31-30:24

31 Now the Lord saw that Leah was [a]unloved, and He opened her womb, but Rachel was barren. 32 Leah conceived and bore a son and named him [b]Reuben, for she said, “Because the Lord has [c](A)seen my affliction; surely now my husband will love me.” 33 Then she conceived again and bore a son and said, “(B)Because the Lord has [d]heard that I am [e]unloved, He has therefore given me this son also.” So she named him Simeon. 34 She conceived again and bore a son and said, “Now this time my husband will become [f]attached to me, because I have borne him three sons.” Therefore he was named (C)Levi. 35 And she conceived again and bore a son and said, “This time I will [g]praise the Lord.” Therefore she named him [h](D)Judah. Then she stopped bearing.

The Sons of Jacob

30 Now when Rachel saw that (E)she bore Jacob no children, [i]she became jealous of her sister; and she said to Jacob, “(F)Give me children, or else I die.” Then Jacob’s anger burned against Rachel, and he said, “Am I in the place of God, who has (G)withheld from you the fruit of the womb?” She said, “(H)Here is my maid Bilhah, go in to her that she may (I)bear on my knees, that [j](J)through her I too may have children.” So (K)she gave him her maid Bilhah as a wife, and Jacob went in to her. Bilhah conceived and bore Jacob a son. Then Rachel said, “God has [k](L)vindicated me, and has indeed heard my voice and has given me a son.” Therefore she named him [l]Dan. Rachel’s maid Bilhah conceived again and bore Jacob a second son. So Rachel said, “With [m]mighty wrestlings I have [n]wrestled with my sister, and I have indeed prevailed.” And she named him Naphtali.

When Leah saw that she had stopped bearing, she took her maid Zilpah and gave her to Jacob as a wife. 10 Leah’s maid Zilpah bore Jacob a son. 11 Then Leah said, “[o]How fortunate!” So she named him [p]Gad. 12 Leah’s maid Zilpah bore Jacob a second son. 13 Then Leah said, “[q]Happy am I! For women (M)will call me happy.” So she named him [r]Asher.

14 Now in the days of wheat harvest Reuben went and found (N)mandrakes in the field, and brought them to his mother Leah. Then Rachel said to Leah, “Please give me some of your son’s mandrakes.” 15 But she said to her, “Is it a small matter for you to take my husband? And would you take my son’s mandrakes also?” So Rachel said, “Therefore he may lie with you tonight in return for your son’s mandrakes.” 16 When Jacob came in from the field in the evening, then Leah went out to meet him and said, “You must come in to me, for I have surely hired you with my son’s mandrakes.” So he lay with her that night. 17 God gave heed to Leah, and she conceived and bore Jacob a fifth son. 18 Then Leah said, “God has given me my [s]wages because I gave my maid to my husband.” So she named him Issachar. 19 Leah conceived again and bore a sixth son to Jacob. 20 Then Leah said, “God has endowed me with a good gift; now my husband [t]will dwell with me, because I have borne him six sons.” So she named him Zebulun. 21 Afterward she bore a daughter and named her Dinah.

22 Then (O)God remembered Rachel, and God gave heed to her and (P)opened her womb. 23 So she conceived and bore a son and said, “God has (Q)taken away my reproach.” 24 She named him Joseph, saying, “(R)May the Lord [u]give me another son.”

Matthew 12:38-42

The Desire for Signs

38 Then some of the scribes and Pharisees said to Him, “Teacher, (A)we want to see a [a]sign from You.” 39 But He answered and said to them, (B)An evil and adulterous generation craves for a [b]sign; and yet no [c]sign will be given to it but the [d]sign of Jonah the prophet; 40 for just as (C)Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the sea monster, so will (D)the Son of Man be (E)three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. 41 (F)The men of Nineveh will stand up with this generation at the judgment, and will condemn it because (G)they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and behold, (H)something greater than Jonah is here. 42 (I)The Queen of the South will rise up with this generation at the judgment and will condemn it, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, (J)something greater than Solomon is here.
