Version
Psalm 139:13-18

13 For it was you who created my inward parts;[a]
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.(A)
14 I will praise you
because I have been remarkably and wondrously made.[b][c]
Your works are wondrous,
and I know this very well.(B)
15 My bones were not hidden from you
when I was made in secret,
when I was formed in the depths of the earth.(C)
16 Your eyes saw me when I was formless;
all my days were written in your book and planned
before a single one of them began.(D)

17 God, how precious[d] your thoughts are to me;
how vast their sum is!
18 If I counted them,
they would outnumber the grains of sand;(E)
when I wake up,[e] I am still with you.(F)

Genesis 35:16-29

Rachel’s Death

16 They set out from Bethel. When they were still some distance from Ephrath, Rachel began to give birth, and her labor was difficult. 17 During her difficult labor, the midwife said to her, “Don’t be afraid, for you have another son.”(A) 18 With her last breath—for she was dying—she named him Ben-oni,[a] but his father called him Benjamin.[b] 19 So Rachel died and was buried on the way to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem(B)). 20 Jacob set up a marker on her grave; it is the marker at Rachel’s grave still today.

Israel’s Sons

21 Israel set out again and pitched his tent beyond the Tower of Eder.[c] 22 While Israel was living in that region, Reuben went in and slept with his father’s concubine Bilhah, and Israel heard about it.(C)

Jacob had twelve sons:(D)

23 Leah’s sons were Reuben (Jacob’s firstborn),

Simeon, Levi, Judah,

Issachar, and Zebulun.

24 Rachel’s sons were

Joseph and Benjamin.

25 The sons of Rachel’s slave Bilhah

were Dan and Naphtali.

26 The sons of Leah’s slave Zilpah

were Gad and Asher.

These are the sons of Jacob, who were born to him in Paddan-aram.

Isaac’s Death

27 Jacob came to his father Isaac at Mamre(E) in Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron(F)), where Abraham and Isaac had stayed. 28 Isaac lived 180 years. 29 He took his last breath and died, and was gathered to his people,(G) old and full of days. His sons Esau and Jacob buried him.

Matthew 12:15-21

The Servant of the Lord

15 Jesus was aware of this and withdrew. Large crowds[a] followed him, and he healed them all.(A) 16 He warned them not to make him known,(B) 17 so that what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled:

18 Here is my servant whom I have chosen,
my beloved in whom I delight;
I will put my Spirit on him,
and he will proclaim justice to the nations.(C)
19 He will not argue or shout,
and no one will hear his voice in the streets.
20 He will not break a bruised reed,
and he will not put out a smoldering wick,
until he has led justice to victory.[b]
21 The nations will put their hope in his name.[c](D)
