22 After these things, God tempted Abraham, and said to him: Abraham, Abraham. And he answered: Here I am.

² He said to him: Take thy only begotten son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and go into the land of vision: and there thou shalt offer him for an holocaust upon one of the mountains which I will shew thee.

³ So Abraham rising up in the night, saddled his ass: and took with him two young men, and Isaac his son: and when he had cut wood for the holocaust he went his way to the place which God had commanded him.

⁴ And on the third day, lifting up his eyes, he saw the place afar off.

⁵ And he said to his young men: Stay you here with the ass: I and the boy will go with speed as far as yonder, and after we have worshipped, will return to you.

⁶ And he took the wood for the holocaust, and laid it upon Isaac his son: and he himself carried in his hands fire and a sword. And as they two went on together,

⁷ Isaac said to his father: My father. And he answered: What wilt thou, son? Behold, saith he, fire and wood: where is the victim for the holocaust?

⁸ And Abraham said: God will provide himself a victim for an holocaust, my son. So they went on together.

⁹ And they came to the place which God had shewn him, where he built an altar, and laid the wood in order upon it: and when he had bound Isaac his son, he laid him on the altar upon the pile of wood.

¹⁰ And he put forth his hand and took the sword, to sacrifice his son.

¹¹ And behold an angel of the Lord from heaven called to him, saying: Abraham, Abraham. And he answered: Here I am.

¹² And he said to him: Lay not thy hand upon the boy, neither do thou any thing to him: now I know that thou fearest God, and hast not spared thy only begotten son for my sake.

¹³ Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw behind his back a ram amongst the briers sticking fast by the horns, which he took and offered for a holocaust instead of his son.

¹⁴ And he called the name of that place, The Lord seeth. Whereupon even to this day it is said: In the mountain the Lord will see.

13 Unto the end, a psalm for David. The fool hath said in his heart: There is no God, They are corrupt, and are become abominable in their ways: there is none that doth good, no not one.

² The Lord hath looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there be any that understand and seek God.

³ They are all gone aside, they are become unprofitable together: there is none that doth good, no not one. Their throat is an open sepulchre: with their tongues they acted deceitfully; the poison of asps is under their lips. Their mouth is full of cursing and bitterness; their feet are swift to shed blood. Destruction and unhappiness in their ways: and the way of peace they have not known: there is no fear of God before their eyes.

⁴ Shall not all they know that work iniquity, who devour my people as they eat bread?

⁵ They have not called upon the Lord: there have they trembled for fear, where there was no fear.

⁶ For the Lord is in the just generation: you have confounded the counsel of the poor man, but the Lord is his hope.

⁷ Who shall give out of Sion the salvation of Israel? when the Lord shall have turned away the captivity of his people, Jacob shall rejoice and Israel shall be glad.

¹² Let no sin therefore reign in your mortal body, so as to obey the lusts thereof.

¹³ Neither yield ye your members as instruments of iniquity unto sin; but present yourselves to God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of justice unto God.

¹⁴ For sin shall not have dominion over you; for you are not under the law, but under grace.

¹⁵ What then? Shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.

¹⁶ Know you not, that to whom you yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants you are whom you obey, whether it be of sin unto death, or of obedience unto justice.

¹⁷ But thanks be to God, that you were the servants of sin, but have obeyed from the heart, unto that form of doctrine, into which you have been delivered.

¹⁸ Being then freed from sin, we have been made servants of justice.

¹⁹ I speak an human thing, because of the infirmity of your flesh. For as you have yielded your members to serve uncleanness and iniquity, unto iniquity; so now yield your members to serve justice, unto sanctification.

²⁰ For when you were the servants of sin, you were free men to justice.

²¹ What fruit therefore had you then in those things, of which you are now ashamed? For the end of them is death.

²² But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, you have your fruit unto sanctification, and the end life everlasting.

²³ For the wages of sin is death. But the grace of God, life everlasting, in Christ Jesus our Lord.

⁴⁰ He that receiveth you, receiveth me: and he that receiveth me, receiveth him that sent me.

⁴¹ He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet, shall receive the reward of a prophet: and he that receiveth a just man in the name of a just man, shall receive the reward of a just man.

⁴² And whosoever shall give to drink to one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, amen I say to you, he shall not lose his reward.
