Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
11 (A)Teach me Your way, O Lord;
I will walk in Your truth;
[a]Unite my heart to fear Your name.
12 I will praise You, O Lord my God, with all my heart,
And I will glorify Your name forevermore.
13 For great is Your mercy toward me,
And You have delivered my soul from the depths of [b]Sheol.
14 O God, the proud have risen against me,
And a mob of violent men have sought my life,
And have not set You before them.
15 But (B)You, O Lord, are a God full of compassion, and gracious,
Longsuffering and abundant in mercy and truth.
16 Oh, turn to me, and have mercy on me!
Give Your strength to Your servant,
And save the son of Your maidservant.
17 Show me a sign for good,
That those who hate me may see it and be ashamed,
Because You, Lord, have helped me and comforted me.
18 “For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: ‘As My anger and My fury have been (A)poured out on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so will My fury be poured out on you when you enter Egypt. And (B)you shall be an oath, an astonishment, a curse, and a reproach; and you shall see this place no more.’
19 “The Lord has said concerning you, O remnant of Judah, (C)‘Do not go to Egypt!’ Know certainly that I have [a]admonished you this day. 20 For you [b]were hypocrites in your hearts when you sent me to the Lord your God, saying, ‘Pray for us to the Lord our God, and according to all that the Lord your God says, so declare to us and we will do it.’ 21 And I have this day declared it to you, but you have (D)not obeyed the voice of the Lord your God, or anything which He has sent you by me. 22 Now therefore, know certainly that you (E)shall die by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence in the place where you desire to go to dwell.”
Sending Out the Twelve(A)
5 These twelve Jesus sent out and commanded them, saying: (B)“Do not go into the way of the Gentiles, and do not enter a city of (C)the Samaritans. 6 (D)But go rather to the (E)lost sheep of the house of Israel. 7 (F)And as you go, preach, saying, (G)‘The kingdom of heaven [a]is at hand.’ 8 Heal the sick, [b]cleanse the lepers, [c]raise the dead, cast out demons. (H)Freely you have received, freely give. 9 (I)Provide neither gold nor silver nor (J)copper in your money belts, 10 nor bag for your journey, nor two tunics, nor sandals, nor staffs; (K)for a worker is worthy of his food.
11 (L)“Now whatever city or town you enter, inquire who in it is worthy, and stay there till you go out. 12 And when you go into a household, greet it. 13 (M)If the household is worthy, let your peace come upon it. (N)But if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you. 14 (O)And whoever will not receive you nor hear your words, when you depart from that house or city, (P)shake off the dust from your feet. 15 Assuredly, I say to you, (Q)it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city!
Persecutions Are Coming(R)
16 (S)“Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. (T)Therefore be wise as serpents and (U)harmless[d] as doves. 17 But beware of men, for (V)they will deliver you up to councils and (W)scourge you in their synagogues. 18 (X)You will be brought before governors and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them and to the Gentiles. 19 (Y)But when they deliver you up, do not worry about how or what you should speak. For (Z)it will be given to you in that hour what you should speak; 20 (AA)for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.
21 (AB)“Now brother will deliver up brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death. 22 And (AC)you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. (AD)But he who endures to the end will be saved. 23 (AE)When they persecute you in this city, flee to another. For assuredly, I say to you, you will not have (AF)gone through the cities of Israel (AG)before the Son of Man comes.
