Version
Psalm 86:11-17

11 Teach me Your way, Yahweh,
and I will live by Your truth.
Give me an undivided mind to fear Your name.(A)
12 I will praise You with all my heart, Lord my God,
and will honor Your name forever.(B)
13 For Your faithful love for me is great,
and You deliver my life from the depths of Sheol.(C)

14 God, arrogant people have attacked me;
a gang of ruthless men seeks my life.
They have no regard for You.(D)
15 But You, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God,
slow to anger and rich in faithful love and truth.(E)
16 Turn to me and be gracious to me.
Give Your strength to Your servant;
save the son of Your female servant.(F)
17 Show me a sign of Your goodness;
my enemies will see and be put to shame
because You, Lord, have helped and comforted me.(G)

Jeremiah 42:18-22

18 “For this is what the Lord of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: ‘Just as My anger and fury were poured out on Jerusalem’s residents,(A) so will My fury pour out on you if you go to Egypt. You will become an object of cursing, scorn,(B) execration, and disgrace, and you will never see this place again.’ 19 The Lord has spoken concerning you, remnant of Judah: ‘Don’t go to Egypt.’ Know for certain that I have warned you today!(C) 20 You have led your own selves astray because you are the ones who sent me to the Lord your God, saying, ‘Pray to the Lord our God on our behalf, and as for all that the Lord our God says, tell it to us, and we’ll act accordingly.’ 21 For I have told you today, but you have not obeyed the voice of the Lord your God in everything He has sent me to tell you. 22 Now therefore, know for certain that by the sword, famine, and plague you will die in the place where you desired to go to live for a while.”

Matthew 10:5-23

Jesus sent out these 12 after giving them instructions: “Don’t take the road leading to other nations, and don’t enter any Samaritan(A) town. Instead, go to the lost sheep(B) of the house of Israel.(C) As you go, announce this: ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near.’(D) Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those with skin diseases, drive out demons.(E) You have received free of charge; give free of charge. Don’t take along gold, silver, or copper for your money-belts.(F) 10 Don’t take a traveling bag for the road, or an extra shirt, sandals, or a walking stick, for the worker(G) is worthy of his food.

11 “When you enter any town or village, find out who is worthy, and stay there until you leave. 12 Greet a household when you enter it,(H) 13 and if the household is worthy, let your peace be on it. But if it is unworthy, let your peace return to you.(I) 14 If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, shake the dust off your feet(J) when you leave that house or town. 15 I assure you: It will be more tolerable on the day of judgment(K) for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah than for that town.(L)

Persecutions Predicted

16 “Look, I’m sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as serpents and as harmless as doves.(M) 17 Because people will hand you over to sanhedrins[a] and flog you in their synagogues,(N) beware of them. 18 You will even be brought before governors and kings because of Me, to bear witness to them and to the nations.(O) 19 But when they hand you over, don’t worry about how or what you should speak.(P) For you will be given what to say at that hour, 20 because you are not speaking, but the Spirit(Q) of your Father is speaking through you.(R)

21 “Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child. Children will even rise up against their parents and have them put to death.(S) 22 You will be hated by everyone because of My name.(T) But the one who endures to the end will be delivered.[b](U) 23 When they persecute you in one town, escape to another.(V) For I assure you: You will not have covered the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.
