Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
8 Bless our God, O peoples,
And [a](A)sound His praise abroad,
9 Who [b](B)keeps us in life
And (C)does not allow our feet to [c]slip.
10 For You have (D)tried us, O God;
You have (E)refined us as silver is refined.
11 You (F)brought us into the net;
You laid an oppressive burden upon our loins.
12 You made men (G)ride over our heads;
We went through (H)fire and through water,
Yet You (I)brought us out into a place of abundance.
13 I shall (J)come into Your house with burnt offerings;
I shall (K)pay You my vows,
14 Which my lips uttered
And my mouth spoke when I was (L)in distress.
15 I shall (M)offer to You burnt offerings of fat beasts,
With the smoke of (N)rams;
I shall make an offering of [d]bulls with male goats. Selah.
16 (O)Come and hear, all who [e]fear God,
And I will (P)tell of what He has done for my soul.
17 I cried to Him with my mouth,
And [f]He was (Q)extolled with my tongue.
18 If I [g](R)regard wickedness in my heart,
The (S)Lord [h]will not [i]hear;
19 But certainly (T)God has heard;
He has given heed to the voice of my prayer.
20 (U)Blessed be God,
Who (V)has not turned away my prayer
Nor His lovingkindness from me.
5 Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that (A)every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 (B)The Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was (C)grieved [a]in His heart. 7 The Lord said, “(D)I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, from man to animals to creeping things and to birds of the [b]sky; for (E)I am sorry that I have made them.” 8 But (F)Noah (G)found favor in the eyes of the Lord.
9 These are the records of the generations of Noah. Noah was a (H)righteous man, [c](I)blameless in his [d]time; Noah (J)walked with God. 10 Noah [e]became the father of three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
11 Now the earth was (K)corrupt in the sight of God, and the earth was (L)filled with violence. 12 God looked on the earth, and behold, it was corrupt; for (M)all flesh had corrupted their way upon the earth.
13 Then God said to Noah, “(N)The end of all flesh has come before Me; for the earth is filled with violence because of them; and behold, I am about to destroy them with the earth. 14 Make for yourself an ark of gopher wood; you shall make the ark with rooms, and shall [f]cover it inside and out with pitch. 15 This is how you shall make it: the length of the ark three hundred [g]cubits, its breadth fifty [h]cubits, and its height thirty [i]cubits. 16 You shall make a [j]window for the ark, and finish it to a cubit from [k]the top; and set the door of the ark in the side of it; you shall make it with lower, second, and third decks. 17 Behold, (O)I, even I am bringing the flood of water upon the earth, to destroy all flesh in which is the breath of life, from under heaven; everything that is on the earth shall perish. 18 But I will establish (P)My covenant with you; and (Q)you shall enter the ark—you and your sons and your wife, and your sons’ wives with you. 19 (R)And of every living thing of all flesh, you shall bring two of every kind into the ark, to keep them alive with you; they shall be male and female. 20 (S)Of the birds after their kind, and of the animals after their kind, of every creeping thing of the ground after its kind, two of every kind will come to you to keep them alive. 21 As for you, take for yourself some of all (T)food which is edible, and gather it to yourself; and it shall be for food for you and for them.” 22 (U)Thus Noah did; according to all that God had commanded him, so he did.
Paul Is Sent to Rome
27 When it was decided that (A)we (B)would sail for (C)Italy, they proceeded to deliver Paul and some other prisoners to a centurion of the Augustan [a](D)cohort named Julius. 2 And embarking in an Adramyttian ship, which was about to sail to the regions along the coast of [b](E)Asia, we put out to sea accompanied by (F)Aristarchus, a (G)Macedonian of (H)Thessalonica. 3 The next day we put in at (I)Sidon; and Julius (J)treated Paul with consideration and (K)allowed him to go to his friends and receive care. 4 From there we put out to sea and sailed under the shelter of (L)Cyprus because (M)the winds were contrary. 5 When we had sailed through the sea along the coast of (N)Cilicia and (O)Pamphylia, we landed at Myra in Lycia. 6 There the centurion found an (P)Alexandrian ship sailing for (Q)Italy, and he put us aboard it. 7 When we had sailed slowly for a good many days, and with difficulty had arrived off Cnidus, (R)since the wind did not permit us to go farther, we sailed under the shelter of (S)Crete, off Salmone; 8 and with difficulty (T)sailing past it we came to a place called Fair Havens, near which was the city of Lasea.
9 When considerable time had passed and the voyage was now dangerous, since even (U)the [c]fast was already over, Paul began to admonish them, 10 and said to them, “Men, I perceive that the voyage will certainly be with (V)damage and great loss, not only of the cargo and the ship, but also of our lives.” 11 But the centurion was more persuaded by the (W)pilot and the [d]captain of the ship than by what was being said by Paul. 12 Because the harbor was not suitable for wintering, the majority reached a decision to put out to sea from there, if somehow they could reach Phoenix, a harbor of (X)Crete, facing southwest and northwest, and spend the winter there.
