Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
Thanksgiving for Deliverance from Death.
116 (A)I love the Lord, because He (B)hears
My voice and my supplications.
2 Because He has (C)inclined His ear to me,
Therefore I shall call upon Him as long as I live.
3 The (D)cords of death encompassed me
And the [a]terrors of [b]Sheol [c]came upon me;
I found distress and sorrow.
4 Then (E)I called upon the name of the Lord:
“O Lord, I beseech You, [d](F)save my life!”
12 What shall I (A)render to the Lord
For all His (B)benefits [a]toward me?
13 I shall lift up the (C)cup of salvation
And (D)call upon the name of the Lord.
14 I shall (E)pay my vows to the Lord,
Oh may it be (F)in the presence of all His people.
15 (G)Precious in the sight of the Lord
Is the death of His godly ones.
16 O Lord, [b]surely I am (H)Your servant,
I am Your servant, the (I)son of Your handmaid,
You have (J)loosed my bonds.
17 To You I shall offer (K)a sacrifice of thanksgiving,
And (L)call upon the name of the Lord.
18 I shall (M)pay my vows to the Lord,
Oh may it be in the presence of all His people,
19 In the (N)courts of the Lord’s house,
In the midst of you, O (O)Jerusalem.
[c]Praise [d]the Lord!
6 (A)The Lord of hosts will prepare a [a]lavish banquet for (B)all peoples on this mountain;
A banquet of [b]aged wine, [c]choice pieces with marrow,
And [d]refined, aged wine.
7 And on this mountain He will swallow up the [e](C)covering which is over all peoples,
Even the veil which is [f]stretched over all nations.
8 He will (D)swallow up death for all time,
And the Lord [g]God will (E)wipe tears away from all faces,
And He will remove the (F)reproach of His people from all the earth;
For the Lord has spoken.
9 And it will be said in that day,
“Behold, (G)this is our God for whom we have (H)waited that (I)He might save us.
This is the Lord for whom we have waited;
(J)Let us rejoice and be glad in His salvation.”
12 And He also went on to say to the one who had invited Him, “When you give a luncheon or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbors, otherwise they may also invite you in return and that will be your repayment. 13 But when you give a [a]reception, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, 14 and you will be blessed, since they [b]do not have the means to repay you; for you will be repaid at (A)the resurrection of the righteous.”
