Version
Psalm 119:1-8

The Law of the Lord

119 Happy are those whose lives are faultless,
    who live according to the law of the Lord.
Happy are those who follow his commands,
    who obey him with all their heart.
They never do wrong;
    they walk in the Lord's ways.
Lord, you have given us your laws
    and told us to obey them faithfully.
How I hope that I shall be faithful
    in keeping your instructions!
If I pay attention to all your commands,
    then I will not be put to shame.
As I learn your righteous judgments,
    I will praise you with a pure heart.
I will obey your laws;
    never abandon me!

Genesis 26:1-5

Isaac Lives at Gerar

26 There was another famine in the land besides the earlier one during the time of Abraham. Isaac went to Abimelech, king of the Philistines, at Gerar. The Lord had appeared to Isaac and had said, “Do not go to Egypt; stay in this land, where I tell you to stay. (A)Live here, and I will be with you and bless you. I am going to give all this territory to you and to your descendants. I will keep the promise I made to your father Abraham. I will give you as many descendants as there are stars in the sky, and I will give them all this territory. All the nations will ask me to bless them as I have blessed your descendants. I will bless you, because Abraham obeyed me and kept all my laws and commands.”

James 1:12-16

Testing and Tempting

12 Happy are those who remain faithful under trials, because when they succeed in passing such a test, they will receive as their reward the life which God has promised to those who love him. 13 (A)If we are tempted by such trials, we must not say, “This temptation comes from God.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, and he himself tempts no one. 14 But we are tempted when we are drawn away and trapped by our own evil desires. 15 Then our evil desires conceive and give birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

16 Do not be deceived, my dear friends!
