Psalm 119:1-8

Psalm 119

The Great Psalm on the Law of the Lord[a]

Aleph: Blessed Are the Blameless

How blessed are those who are blameless in their way,
who walk in the law[b] of the Lord.
How blessed are those who keep[c] his testimonies.
With all their heart they seek him.
Indeed, they do no wrong.
They walk in his ways.
You have commanded that your precepts[d] be kept completely.
If only my ways were unwavering in keeping your statutes![e]
Then I would not be put to shame when I consider all your commands.
I will thank you with an upright heart
as I learn your righteous judgments.[f]
I will keep your statutes.
Do not abandon me completely.

Genesis 26:1-5

Isaac and Abimelek

26 There was a famine in the land, besides the first famine that had occurred during the days of Abraham. Isaac went to Abimelek king of the Philistines at Gerar. The Lord appeared to him and said, “Do not go down into Egypt. Live in the land where I tell you to live. Live in this land, and I will be with you and will bless you. For to you and to your descendants I will give all these lands, and I will establish the oath that I swore to Abraham your father. I will multiply your descendants like the stars of the sky and will give all these lands to your descendants. In your seed[a] all the nations of the earth will be blessed, because Abraham obeyed my voice and kept my requirements, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.”

James 1:12-16

Temptation

12 Blessed is the man who endures a trial patiently, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life, which God[a] promised to those who love him. 13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” because God cannot be tempted by evil, and he himself tempts no one. 14 But each person is tempted when he is dragged away and enticed by his own desire. 15 Then when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin. And sin, when it is full grown, gives birth to death.

Receive and Do What God’s Word Says

16 Do not be deceived, my dear brothers.
