²⁷ As they were going down at the end of the city, Samuel said to Saul, Bid the servant pass on before us (and he passed on), but stand thou still ^[a]first, that I may cause thee to hear the word of God.

10 Then Samuel took the vial of oil, and poured it upon his head, and kissed him, and said, Is it not that Jehovah hath anointed thee to be prince over his inheritance? ² When thou art departed from me to-day, then thou shalt find two men by Rachel’s sepulchre, in the border of Benjamin at Zelzah; and they will say unto thee, The asses which thou wentest to seek are found; and, lo, thy father hath left off caring for the asses, and is anxious for you, saying, What shall I do for my son? ³ Then shalt thou go on forward from thence, and thou shalt come to the ^[b]oak of Tabor; and there shall meet thee there three men going up to God to Beth-el, one carrying three kids, and another carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a ^[c]bottle of wine: ⁴ and they will salute thee, and give thee two loaves of bread, which thou shalt receive of their hand. ⁵ After that thou shalt come to ^[d]the hill of God, where is the garrison of the Philistines: and it shall come to pass, when thou art come thither to the city, that thou shalt meet a band of prophets coming down from the high place with a psaltery, and a timbrel, and a pipe, and a harp, before them; and they will be prophesying: ⁶ and the Spirit of Jehovah will come mightily upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man. ⁷ And ^[e]let it be, when these signs are come unto thee, ^[f]that thou do as occasion shall serve thee; for God is with thee. ⁸ And thou shalt go down before me to Gilgal; and, behold, I will come down unto thee, to offer burnt-offerings, and to sacrifice sacrifices of peace-offerings: seven days shalt thou tarry, till I come unto thee, and show thee what thou shalt do.

2 Then after the space of fourteen years I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, taking Titus also with me. ² And I went up by revelation; and I laid before them the ^[a]gospel which I preach among the Gentiles but privately before them who ^[b]were of repute, lest by any means I should be running, or had run, in vain. ³ But not even Titus who was with me, being a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised: ^4 [c]and that because of the false brethren privily brought in, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage: ⁵ to whom we gave place in the way of subjection, no, not for an hour; that the truth of the ^[d]gospel might continue with you. ⁶ But from those who ^[e]were reputed to be somewhat ^[f](whatsoever they were, it maketh no matter to me: God accepteth not man’s person)—they, I say, who were of repute imparted nothing to me: ⁷ but contrariwise, when they saw that I had been intrusted with the ^[g]gospel of the uncircumcision, even as Peter with the ^[h]gospel of the circumcision ⁸ (for he that wrought for Peter unto the apostleship of the circumcision wrought for me also unto the Gentiles); ⁹ and when they perceived the grace that was given unto me, ^[i]James and Cephas and John, they who ^[j]were reputed to be pillars, gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship, that we should go unto the Gentiles, and they unto the circumcision; ¹⁰ only they would that we should remember the poor; which very thing I was also zealous to do.
