Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
5 The (A)heavens will praise Your wonders, O Lord;
Your faithfulness also (B)in the assembly of the (C)holy ones.
6 For (D)who in the skies is comparable to the Lord?
Who among the [a](E)sons of the mighty is like the Lord,
7 A God (F)greatly feared in the council of the (G)holy ones,
And (H)awesome above all those who are around Him?
8 O Lord God of hosts, (I)who is like You, O mighty [b]Lord?
Your faithfulness also surrounds You.
9 You rule the swelling of the sea;
When its waves rise, You (J)still them.
10 You Yourself crushed [c](K)Rahab like one who is slain;
You (L)scattered Your enemies with [d]Your mighty arm.
11 The (M)heavens are Yours, the earth also is Yours;
The (N)world and [e]all it contains, You have founded them.
12 The (O)north and the south, You have created them;
(P)Tabor and (Q)Hermon (R)shout for joy at Your name.
13 You have [f]a strong arm;
Your hand is mighty, Your (S)right hand is exalted.
14 (T)Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne;
(U)Lovingkindness and [g]truth go before You.
15 How blessed are the people who know the [h](V)joyful sound!
O Lord, they walk in the (W)light of Your countenance.
16 In (X)Your name they rejoice all the day,
And by Your righteousness they are exalted.
17 For You are the glory of (Y)their strength,
And by Your favor [i]our (Z)horn is exalted.
18 For our (AA)shield belongs to the Lord,
[j]And our king to the (AB)Holy One of Israel.
19 [k]Once You spoke in vision to Your godly [l]ones,
And said, “I have [m]given help to one who is (AC)mighty;
I have exalted one (AD)chosen from the people.
20 “I have (AE)found David My servant;
With My holy (AF)oil I have anointed him,
21 With whom (AG)My hand will be established;
My arm also will (AH)strengthen him.
22 “The enemy will not [n]deceive him,
Nor the [o](AI)son of wickedness afflict him.
23 “But I shall (AJ)crush his adversaries before him,
And strike those who hate him.
24 “My (AK)faithfulness and My lovingkindness will be with him,
And in My name his (AL)horn will be exalted.
25 “I shall also set his hand (AM)on the sea
And his right hand on the rivers.
26 “He will cry to Me, ‘You are (AN)my Father,
My God, and the (AO)rock of my salvation.’
27 “I also shall make him My (AP)firstborn,
The (AQ)highest of the kings of the earth.
28 “My (AR)lovingkindness I will keep for him forever,
And My (AS)covenant shall be confirmed to him.
29 “So I will establish his [p](AT)descendants forever
And his (AU)throne (AV)as the days of heaven.
30 “If his sons (AW)forsake My law
And do not walk in My judgments,
31 If they [q]violate My statutes
And do not keep My commandments,
32 Then I will punish their transgression with the (AX)rod
And their iniquity with stripes.
33 “But I will not break off (AY)My lovingkindness from him,
Nor deal falsely in My faithfulness.
34 “My (AZ)covenant I will not [r]violate,
Nor will I (BA)alter [s]the utterance of My lips.
35 “[t]Once I have (BB)sworn by My holiness;
I will not lie to David.
36 “His [u](BC)descendants shall endure forever
And his (BD)throne (BE)as the sun before Me.
37 “It shall be established forever (BF)like the moon,
And the (BG)witness in the sky is faithful.” [v]Selah.
4 Now the word of the Lord came to me saying,
5 “Before I (A)formed you in the womb I knew you,
And (B)before you were born I consecrated you;
I have (C)appointed you a prophet to the nations.”
6 Then (D)I said, “Alas, Lord [a]God!
Behold, I do not know how to speak,
Because (E)I am a youth.”
7 But the Lord said to me,
“Do not say, ‘I am a youth,’
(F)Because everywhere I send you, you shall go,
And (G)all that I command you, you shall speak.
8 “(H)Do not be afraid of them,
For (I)I am with you to deliver you,” declares the Lord.
9 Then the Lord stretched out His hand and (J)touched my mouth, and the Lord said to me,
Philip in Samaria
4 Therefore, those (A)who had been scattered went about [a](B)preaching the word. 5 (C)Philip went down to the city of Samaria and began proclaiming [b]Christ to them. 6 The crowds with one accord were giving attention to what was said by Philip, as they heard and saw the [c]signs which he was performing. 7 For in the case of many who had (D)unclean spirits, they were coming out of them shouting with a loud voice; and many who had been (E)paralyzed and lame were healed. 8 So there was (F)much rejoicing in that city.
9 Now there was a man named Simon, who formerly was practicing (G)magic in the city and astonishing the people of Samaria, (H)claiming to be someone great; 10 and they all, from smallest to greatest, were giving attention to him, saying, “(I)This man is what is called the Great Power of God.” 11 And they were giving him attention because he had for a long time astonished them with his (J)magic arts. 12 But when they believed Philip (K)preaching the good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were being (L)baptized, men and women alike. 13 Even Simon himself believed; and after being baptized, he continued on with Philip, and as he observed (M)signs and (N)great miracles taking place, he was constantly amazed.
