Mary’s Praise

46 And Mary said:

My soul proclaims the greatness of[a] the Lord,(A)
47 and my spirit has rejoiced(B) in God my Savior,(C)
48 because He has looked with favor
on the humble condition of His slave.
Surely, from now on all generations
will call me blessed,(D)
49 because the Mighty One(E)
has done great things for me,(F)
and His name(G) is holy.
50 His mercy is from generation to generation(H)
on those who fear Him.
51 He has done a mighty deed with His arm;(I)
He has scattered the proud
because of the thoughts of their hearts;
52 He has toppled the mighty from their thrones
and exalted the lowly.
53 He has satisfied the hungry with good things(J)
and sent the rich away empty.
54 He has helped His servant Israel,
mindful of His mercy,[b]
55 just as He spoke to our ancestors,
to Abraham and his descendants[c] forever.

2 Samuel 7:18

David’s Prayer of Thanksgiving

18 Then King David went in,(A) sat in the Lord’s presence, and said,

Who am I, Lord God, and what is my house that You have brought me this far?

2 Samuel 7:23-29

23 And who is like Your people Israel? God came to one nation on earth in order to redeem a people for Himself, to make a name for Himself, and to perform for them[a] great and awesome acts, driving out nations and their gods before Your people You redeemed for Yourself from Egypt.(A) 24 You established Your people Israel to be Your own people forever, and You, Lord, have become their God.(B)

25 Now, Lord God, fulfill the promise forever that You have made to Your servant and his house. Do as You have promised, 26 so that Your name will be exalted forever, when it is said, “The Lord of Hosts is God over Israel.” The house of Your servant David(C) will be established before You 27 since You, Lord of Hosts, God of Israel, have revealed this to Your servant when You said, “I will build a house for you.” Therefore, Your servant has found the courage to pray this prayer to You. 28 Lord God, You are God; Your words are true, and You have promised this grace to Your servant. 29 Now, please bless Your servant’s house so that it will continue before You forever. For You, Lord God, have spoken, and with Your blessing Your servant’s house will be blessed forever.(D)

Galatians 3:6-14

Just as Abraham believed God,(A) and it was credited to him for righteousness,(B)[a] then understand that those who have faith are Abraham’s sons.(C) Now the Scripture saw in advance that God would justify the Gentiles by faith and told the good news ahead of time to Abraham,(D) saying, All the nations will be blessed through you.(E)[b] So those who have faith are blessed with Abraham,(F) who had faith.[c]

Law and Promise

10 For all who rely on the works of the law are under a curse,(G) because it is written:(H) Everyone who does not continue doing everything written in the book of the law is cursed.(I)[d] 11 Now it is clear that no one is justified before God by the law, because the righteous will live(J) by faith.(K)[e] 12 But the law is not based on faith; instead, the one who does these things will live by them.(L)[f] 13 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us,(M) because it is written: Everyone who is hung on a tree is cursed.(N)[g] 14 The purpose was that the blessing of Abraham would come to the Gentiles by Christ Jesus, so that we could receive the promised Spirit through faith.(O)
