Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
Praise for deliverance.
For the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.
21 The king shall joy in thy strength, O Jehovah;
And in thy salvation how greatly shall he rejoice!
2 Thou hast given him his heart’s desire,
And hast not withholden the request of his lips. Selah
3 For thou meetest him with the blessings of [a]goodness:
Thou settest a crown of fine gold on his head.
4 He asked life of thee, thou gavest it him,
Even length of days for ever and ever.
5 His glory is great in thy salvation:
Honor and majesty dost thou lay upon him.
6 For thou [b]makest him most blessed for ever:
Thou makest him glad with joy in thy presence.
7 For the king trusteth in Jehovah;
And through the lovingkindness of the Most High he shall not be moved.
8 Thy hand will find out all thine enemies;
Thy right hand will find out those that hate thee.
9 Thou wilt make them as a fiery furnace in the time of thine [c]anger:
Jehovah will swallow them up in his wrath,
And the fire shall devour them.
10 Their fruit wilt thou destroy from the earth,
And their seed from among the children of men.
11 For they intended evil against thee;
They conceived a device which they are not able to perform.
12 For thou wilt make them turn their back;
Thou wilt make ready with thy bowstrings against their face.
13 Be thou exalted, O Jehovah, in thy strength:
So will we sing and praise thy power.
14 Fear not, thou worm Jacob, and ye men of Israel; I will help thee, saith Jehovah, and [a]thy Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel. 15 Behold, I have made thee to be a new sharp threshing instrument having teeth; thou shalt thresh the mountains, and beat them small, and shalt make the hills as chaff. 16 Thou shalt winnow them, and the wind shall carry them away, and the whirlwind shall scatter them; and thou shalt rejoice in Jehovah, thou shalt glory in the Holy One of Israel.
17 The poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue faileth for thirst; I, Jehovah, will answer them, I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them. 18 I will open rivers on the bare heights, and fountains in the midst of the valleys; I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water. 19 I will put in the wilderness the cedar, the acacia, and the myrtle, and the [b]oil-tree; I will set in the desert the [c]fir-tree, the [d]pine, and the box-tree together: 20 that they may see, and know, and consider, and understand together, that the hand of Jehovah hath done this, and the Holy One of Israel hath created it.
14 And I myself also am persuaded of you, my brethren, that ye yourselves are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another. 15 But I write the more boldly unto you in some measure, as putting you again in remembrance, because of the grace that was given me of God, 16 that I should be a minister of Christ Jesus unto the [a]Gentiles, [b]ministering the [c]gospel of God, that the offering up of the Gentiles might be made acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Spirit. 17 I have therefore my glorying in Christ Jesus in things pertaining to God. 18 For I will not dare to speak of any [d]things save those which Christ wrought through me, for the obedience of the [e]Gentiles, by word and deed, 19 in the power of signs and wonders, in the power of [f]the Holy Spirit; so that from Jerusalem, and round about even unto Illyricum, I have [g]fully preached the [h]gospel of Christ; 20 yea, [i]making it my aim so to [j]preach the gospel, not where Christ was already named, that I might not build upon another man’s foundation; 21 but, as it is written,
[k]They shall see, to whom no tidings of him came,
And they who have not heard shall understand.
