Psalm 72:1-7

72 1 He prayeth for the prosperous estate of the kingdom of Solomon, who was the figure of Christ, 4 under whom shall be righteousness, peace, and felicity. 10 Unto whom all Kings and nations shall do homage, 17 Whose name and power shall endure forever, and in whom all nations shall be blessed.

A Psalm [a]of Solomon.

Give thy [b]judgments to the King, O God, and thy righteousness to the King’s [c]son.

Then shall he judge thy people in righteousness, and thy poor with equity.

The [d]mountains, and the hills shall bring peace to the people by justice.

He shall [e]judge the poor of the people: he shall save the children of the needy, and shall subdue the oppressor.

They shall [f]fear thee as long as the sun and moon endureth, from generation to generation.

He shall come [g]down like the rain upon the mown grass, and as the showers that water the earth.

In his days shall the righteous flourish, and abundance of peace shall be so long as the moon endureth.

Psalm 72:18-19

18 Blessed be the Lord God, even the God of Israel which only doeth [a]wondrous things.

19 And blessed be his glorious Name forever: and let all the earth be filled with his glory. So be it, even so be it.

Isaiah 40:1-11

40 2 Remission of sins by Christ. 3 The coming of John Baptist. 18 The Prophet reproveth the Idolaters, and them that trust not in the Lord.

Comfort [a]ye, comfort ye my people, will your God say.

Speak comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her [b]warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned; for she hath received of the Lord’s hand [c]double for all her sins.

A [d]voice crieth in the [e]wilderness, [f]Prepare ye the way of the Lord: make straight in the desert a path for our God.

Every valley shall be exalted, and every [g]mountain and hill shall be made low; and the crooked shall be straight, and the rough places plain.

And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all [h]flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.

A [i]voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the [j]grace thereof is as the flowers of the field.

The grass withereth, the flower fadeth, because the [k]Spirit of the Lord bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass.

The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the [l]word of our God shall stand forever.

¶ O Zion, that bringest good tidings, get thee up into the high [m]mountain: O Jerusalem, that bringest good tidings, lift up thy voice with strength: lift it up, be not afraid: say unto the cities of Judah, Behold [n]your God.

10 Behold, the Lord God will come with power, and [o]his arm shall rule for him: behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.

11 He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall guide them with [p]young.

John 1:19-28

19 [a]Then this is the record of John, when the Jews sent Priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who art thou?

20 And he [b]confessed and [c]denied not, and said plainly, I (A)am not that Christ.

21 And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elijah? And he said, [d]I am not. Art thou [e]that Prophet? And he answered, No.

22 Then said they unto him, Who art thou, that we may give an answer to them that sent us? What sayest thou of thyself?

23 He said, I (B)am the voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the Prophet Isaiah.

24 [f]Now they which were sent, were of the Pharisees.

25 And they asked him, and said unto him, [g]Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not that Christ, neither Elijah, nor that Prophet?

26 John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there is one [h]among you, whom ye know not.

27 (C)He it is that cometh after me, which was before me, whose shoe latchet I am not worthy to unloose.

28 These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John did baptize.
